WOW, interesting to see young Orania palindan, it seems to me it's very different from a mature plant with hanging leaflets.

I dream I can get seeds of this species. :)

Tim, I missed it the first time I went through the pictures. It looks like it likes it there. Whenever you feel like coming to the land of the Mauritias let me know. I would love to take you out in the middle of a grove.

Very chuffed, to have planted a palm at Tim and Bobs place, more reason to come back to Hawaii in the near future

Posted

Hey Paul, you can come visit your palm anytime. If for some reason it doesn't make it, you have to come back and plant another one.

Thanks for all your posts. 'Chuffed', is that an Aussie word?

Paul, glad you were "chuffed" visiting the Hawaiian palm gardens. Since I had never heard that word used before I looked it up to see if it was in my big dictionary and yes it was, says: adj. British Slang. pleased; happy. Thanks, learned a new vocabulary word. Thanks also for sharing all the photos you took while in Hawaii. There's still more to see so come back again when you can.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Well, I'm chuffed too!! Tim your garden is spectacular! I just got back from Fairchild...wouldn't it be cool to have a few Chihuly's between your palms? It was thrilling to see these pictures, I can't wait to see your garden in person.

comic097, what a great post, thank you for sharing!
