G'day all, having just returned back home after spending 10 days in Hawaii, 8 days in O'ahu and and 2 days over in Hawaii. Definitely one holiday I wont forget in a long time. Anyway 2 months ago I liaised with Tim about coming over to the Big Island and having a look around at a few Palmtalkers garden. So landing on the Kona side of the Island I hired a car and drove around to Deans first, before driving across the Island to the Hilo side to stay at Tim's place. Dean was more then happy to have us around and was very hospitable with his time. Hope you enjoy the pics.

I thought I had successfully dodged your lens.

Glad we had a chance to meet up. You had an incredible trip, and if you post pics from all of the places you visited, this likely will be the longest thread ever. We're ready and waiting. - Aloha - gmp

I particularly enjoy having Aussies over for a visit, and Paul was no exception. I am hoping he enjoyed all of Hawaii, and not just the palms.

Wow. Amazing photos. Did Dean's Dictyocaryum lose some of it's bluish hue? I really like the style of Dr. George's house. It looks like it was meant to be there. Very cool.

Thanks for all the kind comments. As I said, it is always a pleasure to have someone like Paul, who has the "palm bug," drop by.

Wow. Amazing photos. Did Dean's Dictyocaryum lose some of it's bluish hue?

A few of the palms with colorful crownshafts seem to vary their color from time to time - for reasons I have not yet fully understood. Palms like the Dictyocaryum, the "Orange Crush," and Areca macrocalyx, can have a vibrant color one time the new crownshaft is exposed, and less so the next. And while the Dictyocaryum and Orange Crush are more vibrant when immediately fresh, it seems the A. macrocalyx get more red after becoming exposed (but not always). So, new crownshafts can be like a "box of chocolates."

And I might add that different cameras, settings, processing, and light) can vary in how the colors eventually appear on your screen.

Wow paul! Greats shots of unreal gardens. Everything is grown to perfection. Favourites would have to be the mealy bugs, madfox and houailou. The houailou is really starting to look different to the hookeri with its more erect growth. Cheers for the pics

Paul,

We don't have any verandahs in Hawaii - only lanais. :mrlooney:

By the looks of everything you posted, you were successful in experiencing a palm vacation you will never forget. I would imagine you may hold the world record for the most rare palms ever seen in such a short time - you got your money's worth. I would think that only Nong Nooch could compete with so many exotic palms in one area.
