Its been awhile since there have been any palm additions to the Mooseland. :badday: Since it was raining this morning, I figured why not plant a palm in an area that is in full sun. Got wet but it was nice and cool while working. This Sabal palmetto var. 'Lisa' was obtained from Palmetiermeg several years ago. It was past due getting into the ground. 4 gallon container was packed with roots. :winkie:

Planted to the west of Caryota cumingii that decided to flower before it achieved its potential size. :violin: With its time limited, I figured the 'Lisa' would be a good canidate to fill out this area. As you can see, I am in the MattyB camp of heavily mulching. :hmm:

Nice palm Ron. I would give just about anything for some seeds so I could get some growing in Costa Rica. Hopefully one of these days I'll go to FL and collect some.

Sabal Lisa is a rare palm and I am glad I have 2 in the ground(even if they are a little smaller than the Moose's).

This is one tough palm. Overgrown and root bound in a three gallon container. Soil drying out all the time because I would not step it up. Weed invasions. And still it survived. Reportedly it grows on Magote (raised limestone) in habitat. Dug a 36" deep hole of mostly pure rock. Added about 10% oak leaves as an amendment to the native (rock) soil and shoved it back into the hole. Newest frond was a spear when planted. I think its happier now.

Keith - I am very sorry not responding sooner. Been meaning to post your request but just didn't get around to it. Meant to use my son for scale (he is 6'2") and our schedules never meshed when the sun was properly positioned.

How's the lisa doing?

Also the Beccariophoenix looks very good. I read in another thread someone thinking it might be a madagascariensis, but based on the growth rate I would disagree.
