Many thanks to those who ruined and caused by post on palm fossils to be driven offtropic and closed. I really appreciate it and love to see my topic hijacked.

I have a number of Butias at my home and work. Look at these two seed clusters. The first seems abnormal to me and the second is typical. Has anyone else seen anything like this in Butias? Abnormal: The tree that produced these has a massive trunk. Normal (to me): And here they are side by side: The fruit tastes pretty good on both and all the seeds are viable.

I would like to try something here. Can you please post your favorite vocals here? Remember vocals only, any genre. List the name of the song or attach a YouTube link. Thank you, Karolyn

I am enjoying the commentary about the various hybrids. THis is a palm I got from Merrill a few years back. It is one of the Butia x Jubea hybrids Its getting pretty massive --- It sets fertile fruit and I dust wiht coconut or what ever pollen I have . I put a 3 gallon and a milk crate in the front for comparison Best regards Ed

Butia x Jubaea in Augusta, GA: And another: Both trees came from Dr. Wilcox by way of Donald Coleman. Both trees bear copious amount of viable seed. There are babies coming up everywhere.

I thought it was a fascinating topic, and didn't see all the commotion until it became locked. Some of the comments were a real display of the knowledge pool that exists here on PalmTalk. Is there no way to edit out the off-topic posts and revive it?

I have been out for a few hours, but thank you Dean, for closing this thread. And since this thread is now closed there definitely won't be any discussion about what science is. We can all have different opinions about lots of things, including politics and religion to name two hot topics that won't be disccussed here on PalmTalk, but I have a strong hunch that the majority will understand what science is. And Ben, since it was your original post that caused this thread to veer away from what could have been an interesting discussion, let me just add that using a word like "Biblical" automatically adds a religious connotation. Like it or not. And I have never met a scientist who was under the impression that the earth is only "thousands of years old". Then again, we probably move in different circles!

This thread is not going in a productive direction. I am closing it. Since Bo has already commented and gave a warning, he may choose to respond and/or reopen it. But until then I am stopping its downhill trajectory.

My two favorites: If Opera can be considered, Bizet's Carmen has to be one of the best ever written.
