So as not to be missed, I made this special tip/option into it's own thread. Go to the bottom left corner and use the pull down menu. Then click on "Classic Blue." SURPRISE

So you would have preferred closing the forum for 2,3,4 days? I have a feeling you would have complained about that too. But I'm used to it. It took time and work after the upgrade to perform the necessary testing, tweaking, and experimenting to even find out if the old Classic Blue Skin could be used successfully with our new version. Those who were trying to use it were reporting problems and bugs. I was pretty happy to be able to make it available for use in only two days. There still may be a glitch or two. But I've been using it all day and it appears to be working pretty good. Sorry that upgrade couldn't have gone smoother for you. Note: Many prefer the newer version. That is why we will allow the user to choose. And you can switch back and forth as often as you like until you decide. We may be playing around with some improvements still. It appears as if the Classic Blue fonts are still the same small size as the new skin, along with a few other things. It's not exactly the same as the old Classic Blue.

-Did you know PalmTalk now supports the uploading of multiple photos? You can choose 4 at a time to upload. (I may change that to 5) When posting a photo look for "Help with attaching files" Try our advanced uploader which supports multiple file uploading (modern browser required)" Then proceed and look for "Enable Flash Uploader." Check it and you will then be able to choose multiple files to be uploaded all at once. -Did you know there appears to be an option for a "skin" that makes using the Forum from mobile devices easier and faster. A PalmTalk Lite, so to speak. Has anyone tried PT from an mobile device yet? I'm not sure if it is activated. -Did you know multiple members can now join in your PMs, since they now take the form of a regular thread? -Did you know clicking on the PT logo takes you to the Main Page? -Did you know you can get rid of the "new" column on the right (on the Main Page) by clicking on the tiny "x" at the top of the column? If you want it back, look for the very tiny little "gizmo" in approximately the same place. If you find any more tips & tricks, let us know. I'll do the same.

Hi all, I've had no luck with Siver Saw Palmetto at all. I buy them at a decent size, but within 12-18 months of planting out, they go yellow on me...lowest frond first and within 4 months or so, eventually dies. They have been grown locally, and are a nice green when I buy them. I tried one about 2-3 years ago - with the same result. Bought this one and placed in the ground about 12 months ago. The nursery owner had about 6 or 7 of them, and mentioned he gave them no special care. I've tried treating them with: Iron Sulphate, Mag Sulphate, Iron Chelates, Miracle-Gro ... but there has been no noticable improvement...in fact it is declining more rapidly. I water this palm moderately twice a day (usually), as I know they grow in swampy soil in their native Florida. The soil here is fairly sandy, with manure and other organic additions. It's in a full-sun location. I just don't know.... I think I'm gunna rip it out and replace it with the potted triangle palm in the left of picture. Frustrated .. maybe it's a soil issue...a pH issue... maybe it's just one of those species I cannot grow...and I can accept that. Any thoughts/suggestions gratefully received ! Best regards Michael.

Peter, I hope this pic helps you. The fence is 6' or 2 meters tall for scale. These palms are in Corona, Ca and are decades old. Regards Randy

I put together a more complete list of some other good evergreen examples from southeast Asia with a very nice, tropical look: Polystichum polyblepharum; and also Arachnoides simplicior variegata, plus the old standby Autumn fern, Dryopteris erythrosora. I also love the "shaggy shield fern," Dryopteris atrata (cycadina). And of course don't forget Polypodium polypodioides (resurrection fern) to put all over your live oaks or any other surface to which they'll adhere! There are good vendors in Oregon and Washington (Big Dipper Farms, Forestfarm, Cistus) who sell these and lots of interesting ferns, many of which love southeastern heat and have a tropical effect. I'm still trying to find a hardy, big polypody like Phlebodium aureum or pseudoaureum: Despite claims of vendors, I have never been able to get one of these through a hard freeze here. Yet I've seen them on the trunks of Sabal palms in the Florida panhandle where they surely are subjected to low 20s every year or two. Also, Adiantum hispidulum (rosy maidenhair fern) I think is very beautiful and has a tropical effect, but seems to go deciduous below about 25F.

For something very tropical-loooking and unbelievably cold-hardy and evergreen, try Dryopteris sieboldii. It is fantastic! It didn't flinch through these horrible freezes here. Large, luxurious fronds that mix well with just about anything else tropical. From Taiwan and southern China, so it loves heat and humidity but doesn't mind freezing weather in the least.

Yep, When I dig deeper than a foot or 18", its rare not to hit a rock or more. The rocks are anywhere from 3-14" in diameter.

I know a very important issue for A.wrightii is pH. It MUST have acid soil for a good collor. Maybe your soil is alkaline or that place were you plant it has rests of building material like cement,what increase pH.....

When I dig down deep, or try anyway close to the house I hit very HARD almost rock like dirt/rock in about a foot. This is in the high areas. Down in the stream valley there it is lots of silt, and rocks of all sizes for a few feet.

Michaeal, Truckamongus (a monster truck/robot) has picked up a double wide trailer and sandwiched it between two trans ams....hillbilly hamburger. Gene, Gotta leave 'em wanting more. I started with 32 different clips to choose from and had to get it down to 1:30. Not easy. Most casting directors watch about 15-20 seconds of a demo reel and turn it off. A friend in Rio (through my aviation contacts) sent me this photo, showing the location of the Rio Botanical Garden. Looks like an interesting and very scenic location (but I guess that can be said of the entire city of Rio!). The photo is almost 2 MB so it'll take a few seconds to download after you click on the thumbnail. But it's worth it!
