PALM SOCIETY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA NOVEMBER MEETING

KOO-KOO FOR COCONUTS? If you even looked at this post, you know you are! Don’t miss The Palm Society of Southern California's November 21, 2015 meeting in Palm Desert and Coachella! We will be meeting for the first time at two gardens, one of which features a maturing Cocos nucifera. This is at the home and garden of Greg Curdes, at 59905 Avenida Bermudas, La Quinta, CA 92253. Greg planted his coconut in a garden enclosed by a wall and near a pool. The coconut is about 20 feet tall. It's not some anemic excuse, but a bodacious specimen. The next garden will be at the home and garden of PSSC member Danny Lopez, at 48329 Agua Caliente Street, Coachella, CA 92236. Mr. Lo…

Annual Auction, Tropical Fern & Exotic Plant Society
by Leonard Goldstein- 13 replies
- 1.7k views
Often called the “best rare plant auction in South Florida,” the TFEPS annual auction is an event you’ll want to attend. You don't have to be a Society member to enjoy the refreshments and bid on plants; the auction is open to the public. The Society's big fundraiser will be held on Monday, October 26, in the Garden House at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, and the action will begin at 7:00 PM. This year a duo of auctioneers, both members of the Palm Society, will provide an evening of excitement and entertainment as they present the rare and unusual -- along with other desirable tropical plants -- for bid. You'll encounter species from a wide array of families -- trees…

South Florida Palm Society October 5 Meeting
by Leonard Goldstein- 0 replies

While southern Florida's climate allows us to grow tropical flora that hobbyists in most of the rest of the country can enjoy only through photos, our many seaports make it fairly easy for plant diseases to enter the state. To stay on top of what's affecting some palms here, plan to attend Dr. Monica Elliott's program, "Palm Disease Updates on the Top Three Diseases in Florida," to be presented at the October 5 general meeting of the South Florida Palm Society. Dr. Elliott is Professor and Acting Co-Director of the Ft. Lauderdale Research and Education Center of IFAS. She earned a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Montana State University and a law degree, summa cum laude, …
