There will be a meeting of the Southeastern Palm Society (IPS affiliate) at the Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens in Savannah, GA on 25 February from 10:00 - 3:00. There will be a talk on Chilean Palms from two members who recently went to Chile and a palm/plant auction. All are invited to attend. S. causiarum seedling that came up looking like S. 'LIsa'. One other from the same batch is periodically variegated. It is right behind the one pictured.

The Mounts Botanical Garden Fall Plant Sale is this weekend - Saturday and Sunday, November 5 - 6. The hours are from 9-5 on Saturday and 9-4 on Sunday. Location - Mounts Botanical Garden 531 North Military Trail West Palm Beach, FL 33415 Betty and I will be there selling all sorts of palms and cycads. Two other local palm growers will be there. On Sunday November 22nd, Dr. Leo Martin will give a presentation on Cycads at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. Leo is a great speaker who has been to Dioon-Central in Oaxaca on two Jeff Chemnick trips, amongst many other botanical accomplishments. The talk is free, as is admission to DBG. Our July 15, 2023 meeting will be at two gardens in "the OC"; Jerry and Alma Cabeje and Michael and Susan McGuire; the former in Santa Ana and the latter in Costa Mesa. Garden One: The Home and Garden of Jerry and Alma Cabeje, 2701 Glenarbor Street, Santa Ana, CA 92704. Front garden features a Bismarckia flanked by Pritchardia and Trachycarpus. There are numerous companion plants such as bromeliads, succulents, cactus and more jam-packed around more than 80 palm species in a standard city lot. For those who don't know, Dent Smith was the founder of the International Palm Society and was the first to plant a large number of tropical palms that far north. And since this is the 50th anniversary of the IPS many chapters are visiting. While Dent was successful in growing palms Doris tells me that since his death hurricanes and hard freezes have reduced the numbers quite a bit. Attention everyone! The spring CFPACS meeting will be held Saturday, March 17th, from 10:30 AM to 2pm or so here in sunny Venice, Florida. The event will start at a five acre property where I have my nursery running (known as The Hague) on the outskirts of Venice, then the members will come into town to meet at my place (Christian Faulkner) at 12:30 PM. It is recommended to bring a folding chair for each attending member, but I will try my best to accomodate with furniture. The Palm Society of South Texas will meet at the Mercer Arboretum in Humble, Texas, June 23rd, 2007, to commemorate the memorial bench we purchased in memory of Robert Lee Riffle. We will meet at La Cabana Restaurant at noon that day for lunch. At 2:00 we will gather at the bench, which is placed in the Mercer's tropical garden near Bob's favorite palm there, a Livistona saribus. The Mercer Society is accepting donations at this time to complete the memorial project. Additional components of the project include a plaque and a wind chime. On July 20, 2024, the PSSC is having its July meeting at two gardens in Orange County: the gardens of Steven Velez in Westminster and Larry and Sue Black, in Fountain Valley. Both gardens are noteworthy for being great palm gardens on 1/6-acre suburban lots, yet each has been done with an opposite approach. And both are spectacular.
