Often called the “best rare plant auction in South Florida,” the TFEPS annual auction is an event you’ll want to attend. You don't have to be a Society member to enjoy the refreshments and bid on plants; the auction is open to the public. The Society's big fundraiser will be held on Monday, October 26, in the Garden House at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, and the action will begin at 7:00 PM. This year a duo of auctioneers, both members of the Palm Society, will provide an evening of excitement and entertainment as they present the rare and unusual -- along with other desirable tropical plants -- for bid. You'll encounter species from a wide array of families -- trees…

We are currently attempting to collect as many of our publications as possible. Primarily, this centers around back issues of The Palmateer, but could also include publications that were not published in our aforementioned quarterly or exist only as paper documents. Many of our former board members, current members, and past meeting attendees are active on the PalmTalk forums or on Facebook. Effectively, this is an all call for assistance. If you have any of the following, please post them her…

All NorCall members, The Byron Hot Springs has a large number of palms (primarily Washingtonia and Phoenix species) that are over 120 years old. The owner/developer is interested in the health and well-being of all of these palms. Is anyone interested in working with me to do a complete assessment of trees on the property? Some of the items to deal with are: 1) GPS siting of each of the trees 2) Assessing the health of many of the older ones. Many have been torched/painted/etc. by vandals. We need to determine if there is a future of any kind for them. 3) Movability of the palms if possible 4) Finally, any value they may have. Some of them are very very …

Don Hodel, noted palm authority, will be visiting Lotusland and making a presentation on...palm trees (large group of derived monocotyledonous angiosperms superficially evocative of and splendid examples of convergent evolution with cycads). The program begins in the afternoon and will feature not only a riveting talk and garden tour but wine, cheese, etc. …
