FREE large Arenga engleri to good home in So-Cal
by DoomsDave- 8 replies
- 2.2k views
Howdyall: One of the Arenga engleri in my bustling hedgerow of same was not happy, so I removed it. It appears that it just didn't keep up with the herd relative to the water competition from the other Arengas near it, and was starting to decline. It's now sitting in a big huge bucket of water waiting for someone to come and get it, take it home, and love it, or at least cuss it with grace. The picture shows it next to the infamous Green Monster, for scale. PM me, and arrange a pickup. First come, first served, sooner the better. When you get it home, let it soak a day or two in a bucket of water OUT OF THE SUN AND WIND. Then, plant it in a big pot, …

Hey all, My folks have a humongus staghorn (8-9 ft across) that finally snapped the 4x4 beam it was started on. (About 45 years ago). Anyway it's too big to move, so I'm happy to let folks remove chunks at least until we get it down to a managable size. They root easily. Let me know if you're interested. Bret

Hello, everyone: I am giving away a Livistona chinensis palm, aka Chinese fan palm. Pick up and take away only, Labor Day Weekend only, for the reasons noted below. As you can see from the picture it's about 18" (0.5 M) across the base. It will take full sun, high heat and frost. Excellent palm for inland areas, including Riverside and San Bernardino. Also great near the beach, like gnarly. Lush, bright green; lovely when the crown grows back. Tough and not bothered much by pests or disease. Good for a lawn or well-watered garden. Up to 40' tall with time (20 years). It will survive droughts, but much better with regular water. It's already dug, so you don't have to …

Dear All, I am posting this as a benefit for someone I work with. She inherited a house with from a family member who was an active orchid grower. Since his passing she does not have a need for the greenhouses on the property. She is simply asking for someone to remove them and they are yours. She is in the San Diego area. If you are interested please contact me. Thanks Patrick Here are the pictures I have and there are two greenhouses:

My next door neighbor has a healthy specimen palm that's just not super happy with where it's located. It's otherwise healthy, it's just kind of a mis-plant. Anyway, he'd love to ship it off to a good home. Access to it is pretty good, right next to the street. It's got about 4 1/2 feet of trunk, and is about 11 feet tall to the tip top of the leaves. Big, but not ridiculous to be able to dig and move. PM me if you're interested. We're in th UC area of San Diego.

Sabal palmetto 'filamentous' palms give away
by Matthew92- 2 followers

I've got quite a few Sabal palmettos I grew from seed off a tree with unusually stringy/filamentous leaves in Pensacola, FL. These sprouted in early 2017 and are now outgrowing their pots. I've run out of places to plant, and was thinking of selling, but I'd like to give them away to fellow palm enthusiasts who will appreciate them and provide updates/photos on their progress as they grow. I am very interested to see if they turn out to have the filamentous characteristics as the parent. Here's the thread where I originally commented on about this tree and the seeds I grew (Note: my comments are further down in the thread and are not pertaining to the tree for which …

Acrocomia aculeata - free
by Lucinda- 8 replies

This is a downright nasty, dangerous palm and I've reluctantly decide to remove it from my garden. The tree is about 10 feet tall, actually very pretty -- but those thorns, oh my! It grows fast, needs virtually no attention. Free to anyone tough enough to dig and carry it away. Otherwise I'm going to cut it to the ground. Location: Snead Island, west of Palmetto, south of Tampa, just north of Sarasota. p.m. me if you're interested, Lucinda

Only for USA shipping. Have enough for the first two people to post in this thread that they'd like some. Each person will get about 10-11 seeds. Post here then PM me name & shipping address. I don't usually get seeds because I cut them down before they're mature enough to create seed and let new stems in the clump grow. Here in S FL we grow new ones by separation because it's much quicker. Cool looking seeds aren't they?

Free Sabal seeds - US only
by Hilo Jason- 1 follower

I picked a ton of seed from my Sabal a couple weeks ago but haven't had the time to try to germinate them. So if anyone wants some send me a PM with your address and I'll send you some. US only please since shipping overseas is a lot these days. I don't know what species this is as it wasn't labeled when I bought it. Maybe it's just Palmetto? Either way, it's free. I just cleaned 50 and they all sank so they should be good. Also, I don't have time to clean them before I ship, so you'll have to do that but they clean pretty easy. my dog Rocky is 80 pounds so he gives some scale.

Archontophoenix cunninghamiana Seedlings
by palmsOrl- 1 follower

I have a fairly large number of Archontophoenix cunninghamiana seedlings I would like to offer free in lots of up to five. Redant (Doug) was generous enough to give me an amazing tour of his garden last month and while there gave me many free palms. I would like to pass along a bit of his generosity starting with these 40 palms. The total I am offering is 40 for now as I want to make sure the rest are rooted and are healthy and growing before I plant or distribute them to fellow enthusiasts. I am not sure of the parent plants' origins or if they are a known variety of A. cunninghamiana or for that matter if these traits would be passed on to seedlings arising…

Extra Germinated Seeds (Sabal sp. 'Praha')
by GoatLockerGuns- 8 replies

I have a plethera of extra germinated Sabal sp. 'Praha' seeds to give away. I had near 100% germination from the seeds I collected at the Praha, Texas site back in late February. If you are not familiar with the ongoing Sabal sp. 'Praha' discussion, see the Palmtalk thread below: The extra germinated seeds I have are from the palm I labeled Sabal sp. 'Praha' #5 in the aforementioned post. It is the palm currently thought to be the oldest at the Praha site by most who visit there (the rest are probably volunteers). Reports of these palms in the Praha area go back to the 19th century. In a nutshell, there is some mystery regarding what species of Sabal these palm…

Serenoa repens blue

I have 50 fresh fruits/seeds. The who one announces interest first gets them all! I am not however sure whether seeds are viable. This year fruits maturing of this particular plant has been super fast but fruit size is not the big one like oilives it used to be in the past. Also seeds seem to be almost but not fully developed, however one other time that same occured to me on a Livistona decora, seeds had nevertheless a high germination rate, but a abortion can not also excluded. Besides seeds will be sent with flesh because cleaning leaves a nasty stamp like through ink on fingers!

11 2 ish gal Livistona Chinensis (Chinese Fan Palm)
by chad2468emr- 7 replies
- 1.2k views
Hey there, Today I bought “one” 3 gal Livistona Chinensis from HD and they managed to find a way to cram 14 into a single pot which... well that’s something else. I gently separated them all and I have to say for the most part there was minimal root loss, but since I can’t promise anyone these are in the best of shape, I’d like to offer them for free. I kept my three fav out of the bunch and they are now potted individually. I just can’t bring myself to toss the rest of them since they are really healthy looking little fellas and if someone with the space and the patience was looking to line a long driveway with them or something, they would look really nice in…
