Floridians beware....again!
by SubTropicRay- 24 replies

The early part of next week looks cold again. The GFS forecasting model has Tampa down to 37F next Wednesday morning. That's down from 43F forecasted yesterday. Accuweather is saying how the northeastern part of the country may see the coldest February since 1978. I will start a post called "More On the Ridiculously Cold Winter" if the forecast comes to fruition. Ray

Exhaustive list of all 11a zone climates in Greece
by southathens- 24 replies

Well Kasos HNMS station reigns as its expected. Closely followed of course by Kastellorizo, Psari Forada, Rhodes Port and Gavdos (even though the mean abs. min in Gavdos should be considerably lower than the 6.33C presented on the table below since we don't have data from the epic 2022 and 2021 cold snaps). The data below come from official public stations in Greece and for their entire time series, with the exceptions of Kasos and Karpathos HNMS stations for which I used a full 30 year POR (data for Kasos HNMS available from 1989 and for Karpathos HNMS from 1990). Also both of these stations are the only Stevenson Screen stations on the list. All the rest are Davis …

Calling Jim from San An - syersj

Hey Jim: Since I pretty much consider you the native weatherman on TX , what's your outlook on this weekend? ??? I hear of a front coming in with lots of rain here in Houston. Wasn't liking the sound of it since my folks are coming in from Baton Rouge and we were going to hang by the pool and enjoy Easter. And not to mention I've pulled some palms out of protection and might need to do some shuffling. Is it going to be as bad as this last storm? Thanks, Michael

This thread is meant to house the screenshots and data archives we typically post to preserve real-time data. With the early season cold snap arriving tonight, now makes a good time to start recording data. If you're interested in comparing this cool snap to last years, the attached spreadsheet has the minimum recorded during last October's first notable chill. The dates last year were between October 15th and October 20th. 2022_OctoberColdFrontCompare.xlsx

2007 California Freeze repeat in the long term forecast
by Mauna Kea Cloudforest- 1 follower

Before you freak out, read the post, right now it's not likely we're gonna get another 2007, but it's worth being vigilant and checking on the long term forecasts. The weather has me concerned this year. The drought hasn't broken, and there's no signs of any decent strong onshore jet stream over the West coast. Instead we have a meandering jet stream with a lot of amplified patterns with cut-off lows dancing with a stubborn East Pacific high. This is a bad, bad sign for the West Coast, such a pattern can easily spew out the right conditions for a Yukon express. We all need to pray for a strong pineapple express. The 9 day 850mb GFS is showing a pretty strong Yuco…

In the Southwest, we wait all year, for the best time of the year.. hating the heat that precedes it, but looking forward to the magic it can bring once the rains begin.. This is the Monsoon.. The most unique of weather patterns in the North American subtropics. ***For anyone curious, i'll defer further insight into the detailed details of exactly what the North American Monsoon is to looking through past year's threads here***. That said, in a nutshell, the word " Monsoon " ..a word of Arabic origin refers to a seasonal reversal of wind direction.. one that often brings rain and raised humidity.. While used too often by miss informed people, the word "…

Is it getting colder in the South?
by NC_Palms- 24 replies
- 2.1k views
Since I moved down to North Carolina in the early 2000’s I’ve been noticing that each year it’s been getting cooler in the winter. Cold enough to damage and kill our pindos, sabals, washingtonias, and even damage our native dwarf palmetto. What have you experienced with your palms in the Carolinas and Virginia? I am noticing that less and less are surviving each winter.

"RAINY" dry season
by gsytch- 23 replies
- 1.9k views
This is the heart of our dry season, yet this weekend we had another 5" of rain. This gives us well over 8" for March. Jan and Feb were also above normal. March has also been on the cooler side, little in the way of heat. Not cold, but not warm. Is this a pattern? It seems like the weather is wacky everywhere.

Here just north of Pensacola, FL we experienced some pretty big floods yesterday. Up to 5+ inches of rain fell over my area in under 2 hours yesterday. I have some pics of the flooding in my front yard in which was passed on to the NWS Mobile, AL. Before i upload the pictures i have to download them on my computer so it will be a bit. The flooding may not look bad to you, but i live on the highest point in my neighborhood so this is usually not a big problem.

I know that this is nothing for a lot of y'all up north, but it's kind of a big deal here lol. I've lived in Texas for 12 years (actually tomorrow is the anniversary of my migration), and this will be the 4th time I've seen snow - and this will be the most. Hoping to get some good pics of my dog and my Washy in the white stuff, everything else is already inside.

This has been an interesting year. Last year,California got the cold air. This year,Florida did.Can Texas be far behind? Louisiana and Arizona were also warmer than normal. The High temperature per Weather Underground for Dec was Alice,Tx on Dec.27,2008 at 93F.For Jan.,Santa Ana,Ca was 90F on the 12th.For Feb.,Edinburg,Tx was 93F on the 13th.California showed up in a big way, especially from Jan.11-22.They had a run of highs from 90 to the upper 80's during that time frame.South Texas is just unbelievable for Winter MH's with upper 80's to low 90's a day or two after a cold front.Florida can jump into MH only when a cold front hits Texas and it is cool in California allo…
