Well, that happened! Livistona fulva rapid decline.
Phoenikakias replied to Jonathan's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE
Check for Rhizoctonia or Thielaviopsis. Imo this plant is already a goner, at least take advantage of its demise and bring the whole plant to an expert for autopsy and biopsy. Sorry to say it, but it is is possible that fungus will spread out in the future to the rest of your palms through mycelia unless you resort to biological or chemical prevention. But first you have to make sure of the culprit. Btw my first fulva in the ground had the same death symptoms. I did not verify the actual death cause, of which omission am still very sorry, but this particular part of the garden was heavily infested by Rhizoctonia. -

One tough plant, as me very easy to grow just add drainage and sunshine. These ones are 25 years old that just sat around in containers for years, then finally planted in the ground.

A change in the season has seen the garden go into a relax mode, with the dry weather a lot of leaves have fallen. Fortunately we have had some good rainfall to push the garden back. And the summer root activity has gone into new leaves and spears.

Dypsis plumosa, when you got hundreds off seeds and you don’t want them.
happypalms posted a topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE
Typical flood or drought situation, this is the case with these seeds, not wanted hundreds sitting on the ground. Any other time I would have put the eyehole lot in to germinate, such a shame. It takes time, space and money to grow hundreds of something you’re not interested in. -

Hi there. Please be careful when repotting it. My one looked the same as yours and I transplanted it into another pot being as careful as possible. I don't know what happened but the color faded soon and then it was over within two weeks... That was a real loss, I can tell. However, thank you for posting! Lars -

Jonathan posted a topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE
This L fulva went from healthy to this in under two weeks...no idea what happened but there are six others within a 5m radius that all look like the healthy one below. This is in a fairly wild part of the garden, hence the weeds, but I don't think that's a factor. Rainfall has been reasonable lately, temperature mild to warm. The patch of dead grass immediately below the victim is very suspicious, I suspect something fungal maybe. Any thoughts?- 1 reply

Once they get a couple of feet of trunk they start producing munted growth and micro-spears. Seems to be a thing with both Howeas in my garden. I have had some Hedyscepe do this too.

I am really sad to see this once thriving forum turn to tumbleweeds with the occasional like here and there, but it is what it is. I am Sancho B Plants on the big evil site, and my YouTube and Instagram are both @sanchosgreenpaws My current obsession is aroids, specifically alocasia. Still growing colocasia like crazy, papaya are getting big, still growing and potting palm seeds. Just diversifying and learning and growing, metaphorically and literally. Facebook also put me on a 30 day restricted list because I saw a picture of a literal indoor jungle, and I said looking at that made me need a Valium. They flagged me for trying to sell drugs over that. Cool. Anyway I'm not gone, just branching out.

Unreliable? In what sense?

Welp while I work on figuring out which marketplace site is gonna screw me over the least, I might as well keep dangling stuff to yall. 1 gallon alocasia odora batik variegated. I don't see any more at this size. I have a 5 gallon too but I absolutely do not want to ship that. I will if you're willing to pay for it but it ain't gonna be cheap. Is it perfect? No. Should I give it some time to recover and pamper it for a while? Probably. Split 2, dusted with cinnamon and freshly potted in coir and perlite with some genuine SanchosGreenPaws compost and microchorrizae before being watered with silica and calmag. Asking $65. I'll get more pics mañana. I did a lot today. Also have about 20 corms available, they're on etsy for $20 ea, I'll do 2 for that price.

13 years in the ground from a 5 gallon. It split into two about 6 years ago

Thank you for the information on the soil! I figured those palms wouldn’t look so good in dry soil. I’m very lucky where I live here in urban San Diego to be in USDA zone 11a. It’s amazing the amount of tropical plants and palms which grow to perfection and maturity which “are not supposed to grow here” . This is why I never make definitive statements about any tropical plants that “can’t grown”. I’ve been proven wrong too many times. I’ve been in the IPS since 1984 and am pretty good at identifying palms, but definitely not an expert. It can be very difficult sometimes to 100 percent id palms, especially the more unusual ones or hybrids. 😎 -
Blue Chrysalidocarpus decipiens from Floribunda

Everytime this palm loses a leaf sheath is quite the event. Who needs sun on a rainy day with this in the front yard, It’s really quite the chunk. Tim -
Mine has been a great grower for me. The colors on the crownshaft and petioles are great. I just recently took a close up photo of the trunk showing the coloration:

I find them very unreliable once they reach trunking.
