What is your current yard temperature?
Than replied to GottmitAlex's topic in WEATHER / CLIMATEWe are having heavenly weather here the last week; we haven't been affected by the heatwaves in western Europe. The minimum temperatures are around 55-60 F (14 C) and maxima around 80 F (27 C). It's been quite humid too which I guess my tropicalesque plants must love. I planted vetiver and it is growing very fast. We also had a couple of light rains this week. I hope June stays relatively cool too, I am not looking forward to our first heatwave. -

Palms1984 replied to happypalms's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEI will remember not to fuss over it. I will have to find a good protected spot for it, though. Thanks again for all your knowledge and cultural experience information! 😎

Trachycarpus Palm bending at the top?
happypalms replied to Rookie-gardener's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEIam pretty confident that they will be fine, not sure about the orange dust thing, but just keep them in a well aired area to prevent any mould threat. -
Trachycarpus Palm bending at the top?
Rookie-gardener replied to Rookie-gardener's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEGood morning happy palms, hope you're well. The earliest I can plant the palm to ground is like 2 weeks due to work and having the make the plant bed myself. Is that too much of a risk waiting that long? I did see some orange like dust over the lower stems is that something to be concerned about? Any help much appreciated.

The tropical look in the subtropics
happypalms posted a topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDETo create the tropical look just use large bold leaf plants, exotic plants both rare and common, get as many colourful plants as possible, vibrant green plants and most of palms palms and you guessed it more palms! -
Variegated Howea fosteriana
happypalms replied to happypalms's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEIt’s at least 30 years old, one day just one day it may flower and set seeds. Then it will be interesting if the seedlings will be variegated. Then the fun will begin. As you know I also worked in the Howea industry and yep I never saw one variegated plant. Truly one in a million this palm. I know if I ever get seeds what the demand will be them that’s for sure. The true home is lord Howe island, and the plants you see in Australia are some of the best in the world! Richard They would have to be one of the number one palms in Australia for coastal towns. The whole east coast from Brisbane to south of Sydney. -
Why no inflourescence again?
JohnAndSancho replied to JohnAndSancho's topic in COLD HARDY PALMSThere's another smaller one sprouting under a cedar tree if you ever find yourself in East Mississippi lol. I'm not gonna go into detail but everyone in this house is disabled and my first purchase with my SSDI backpay check is def a robot mower. -

Lowering water pH with Venturi
Than replied to Than's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEAs I said Venturi inserts the solution into the main hose so it gets diluted there. The first time you use the system, you need to do a pH test of the water that comes out from the drippers, and adjust the Venturi valves until the water has the pH you want. I use a simple pH test kit sold at pet shops for aquariums. Dealing with 5h3 sounds stressful... I hate those pests. -
Trachycarpus Palm bending at the top?
happypalms replied to Rookie-gardener's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEJust plant it in the asap, what’s the best way to grow a palm, plant it in the ground! The loose plant in the container is possibly from over potting over the cultivation process. Mishandling perhaps, it may have pulled out of the container at one stage during been moved around, many factors in play on that one. But dont panic plant your palm and happy gardening! -
Lowering water pH with Venturi
Phoenikakias replied to Than's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEDo you water the plants directly from the 10 lt solution or do you dilute further prior to use?
