Any Palm tree nursery in Southern California La area only?!
Darold Petty replied to 888.ho3s's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE
Bluebell nursery; I am not sure if this business is still active since the owners were quite elderly. Contact Arline Passerello at 714.828.1024. The nursery is really accessible, just 5 minutes off the I-5 freeway in Anaheim. Let us know the outcome. - Today

Any Palm tree nursery in Southern California La area only?!

From California I only know JungleMusic Palms, but they are located a bit south of los Angeles in Encinitas. -
Morning to all , I have an outdoor Fan Palm Tree purchased in Atlanta Georgia planted in the ground on my property that I am trying to safely slow the height of the tree going forward. It was planted about 8 years ago and has grown approx 10 feet in that time ( 12 feet high as of today ) which is why I am now trying to safely slow its height growth in the future. I have routinely pruned the fronds over the 8 year period of time. I do know that certain trees can be safely height regulated by applying a "growth regulator" to the base of the tree however I'm unsure if this is recommended to slow the height of my Fan Palm tree. Any advice on a product that can safely be applied to slow the height growth of this Fan Palm tree would be greatly appreciated. Respectfully , Fred C.

Same palm in both photos. I didn't know Commerce had a downtown square.

Anyone know of any nursuries that sell Acrocomia aculeata or Totai in the area?
-
Sorry for the drive-by quality Uptown Park (Houston) The newer mass planting at Shepherd Dr is looking good too. Healthy post-transplant crowns emerging.

Old Man Palm Up for Grabs

Agree - That would be a fantastic deal on the west coast! Location, location, location. 😊 4 years ago, we had a local Arizona nursery import 2 pallets of 7 gallon old mans, (18 trees) priced at $250 each. They literally sold out in less than a month! It was a once in a lifetime opportunity, here, as rare palms are almost never available locally with any size to them. aztropic Mesa, Arizona -

Couldn't agree more.. 🤔 ..." like a vampire for blood " Suckin' -borg? ..Perfect nick name for zuk ..i mean ..suck.. Enthusiastically awaiting the day the Meta ( ..i mean Shett -aa ) empire implodes like the death star.. If only that dinner between the dweeb and other creeper dude was the kill shot.. Of course, when that glorious day occurs, how ever it does, that will mean a lot of whining form people who suddenly have to ...Gasp!, grasp them pearls.. ..go outside and interact with the world ..and other living people / things in it, ...like normal people did pre 2000.. Scary!! 😂 -

What is killing so many Adonidias? I notice them in Naples in the medians and they are constantly being replaced. They seem to just turn sour very quickly for no apparent reasons. -
Thats nice. I wonder what dictates if it's going to have a smooth or booted trunk? It seems like the climate maybe? Maybe genetics? Because mexican fan palms here can go either way. And I guess that's the case everywhere I've been.

I deeply hate the hold Facebook has on the plant community. If you have any niche plant interest you will often find the largest and most active groups for it on Facebook. Most of 'big internet' runs on selling user information but that site viciously starves for personal data like a vampire for blood. One seller of my personal white whales only takes orders through Facebook and it vexes me so. -
Yours is a very nice size . The trunks on these do get pretty fat and after a while , mine self cleaned . Now it has smooth trunk . Harry

@SeanK There is a beautiful one in Commerce GA with a slick trunk its been there so long. Near downtown on the corner of Elm and College at a nice Victorian home.

Can Chambeyronia macrocarpa Hold A Red Leaf For nearly Three Months? You Bet!
Harry’s Palms replied to Jim in Los Altos's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE
I would agree with @happypalms . When mine broke through the canopy it lost a lot of its “ red retention” . It is now more of a burgundy color that lasts less than a week in full sun . I had to also start watering more frequently when it grew into the sun because it would burn so badly . Copious amounts of water changed that. Harry Just starting to open The burgundy red just started to show a day or so later . Within a week it was mostly green. -
Nice looking butia, ever get seeds from it?
-
That palm looks great in that spot. Good call with the partial shade. I see a lot around here and they are mostly in full sun. Not as elongated or green. I've had this for probably 3 years in a big cement pot in the sun. It's taken a while to get size, but the trunks are getting fat so im hoping the new leaves stretch out.
-
@SeanK Are the two pics of the same butia? They almost look different, I guess the perspective is better in the 2nd pic. I love it!
-
Wow. That looks awesome! I love the jungle. And kangaroos🥹 haha. Im definitely coming there. And yeah I would definitely want to stay. Great place you have there. Thanks for the pics

The lush canopy to the right side of the Mexican pavilion has been reduced to some hardy bamboos and livistonas. Everything else either perished or was fried into frond oblivion. -

That seems to be a good deal . From what I’ve read , they are slow growing palms . That one has some age to it . Harry Edit: our Lowe’s , here , is pathetic for palm selection . You folks in Florida have a great selection. If you find a spot for it , I would grab it. -

I was mostly surprised by how badly so many bismarkia were damaged, I drove up i75 until I hit 17. Then took it to i4. Things looked decent till around Arcadia driving East on 17, then things got worse exponentially. By Wachula, nearly everything that should not have been there was completely fried. Just some photos this morning from Universals Endless Summer Surfside. Around Disney most of the giant birds of paradise were completely fried, some had green but many were toast. Here, they faired better depending on placement and proximity to buildings. -
You will love that palm . They grow very well here in Southern California , even in direct sun. Yours is a nice size so the growth will be moderately slow instead of very slow when they are young. I planted a wee baby one and had to wait years for it to get any size . In the last five years or so it has picked up speed . Harry ‘This one gets a bit of shade mixed with direct sun throughout the day . I’ve had it for over 20 years. I planted it towards the bottom of my hill where it is the coldest part of our property in the winter . No problem at all , no fertilizer , just water and sun. Harry

This winter storm is pretty crazy.! Coastal places like new york and new jersey are getting over 20" of snow. many places in coastal new jersey will have wind gusts over 60 miles an hour!, parts of Long Island will have wind gusts us over 75 miles an hour! thankfully, here in south-central Pennsylvania, the snow won't be that bad. Maybe 4 inches.
