Canary Island Date Palm Care

Featured Replies

Over the last month, the edges of the some of the lower fronds of my Canary Island Date Palm (located in Northern CA) have turned yellowish (see pic). (I don't think it's an issue of too little or too much watering.)

Is that part of the tree's normal aging process?

If not, is there a soil nutrient or additive I can purchase to address this situation?

Thanks for any suggestions.

@Jawn your CIDP looks great to me!  Eventually the old fronds will die off.  The yellow tips are a mild magnesium deficiency.  At the age of those leaves it's hard to say if that's all natural age, or just needs a touch of extra magnesium sulfate.  In general I'd just say keep doing what you are doing, and don't worry about the slight yellowing.
