@Robert Cade Ross It would be great to get some fruit off the Arenga when it fully ripens. I don't know of any up in Houston that are fruiting or even close to that size.

    It’s loaded with two visible brackets of seed . Not sure what they look like ripe . This Arenga did not even burn after the 2022 Christmas freeze when Galveston dipped below 20° there are even fruiting Everglades palms on the property finally getting some size after being killed to the ground in 2021.

    The fruit will turn dark red when it ripens. I have had good germination rates with fresh Arenga seed previously.

    There's another one near my house that looks exactly the same. It looked better last year when it didn't burn its leafes for a whole year. Next time I'm going to take a picture of it.

    I had pretty poor results with seed germination in bags last year, so I tried experimenting with some different germination strategies this season. The seeds might also be fresher this time around as some have germinated under all the different conditions. In particular, I tried germinating some in place in the raised bed that would be their final location. These are moving faster than their bag or pot counterparts, probably due to the heat.

    I'm not at all surprised you're getting good results with this method. Our soil temps are so warm, and I think it just creates a perfect environment.
