The Palm Hunter Seeds

I figured I'd make one posting with all of my current offerings.  Do you like the name "The Palm Hunter"?  Hope so, LOL.  I have some new stuff too.

2021 seeds

Sabal 'DeFuniak Springs'            $8/50, $12/100

Sabal palmetto 'Lisa'                  $12/50, $18/100

2022 seeds

Sabal miamiensis                         $10/50, $15/100

Sabal palmetto 'Lisa'                   $16/50, $25/100

Rhapidophyllum hystrix (Chambers County, AL)        $8/10, $16/25, $28/50, $40/100

Rhapidophyllum hystrix (Washington County, GA - tied with a small population in Bibb County, AL for the northernmost population in the world) - Same prices as above

Nannorrhops ritchieana               $7/10, $11/25, $16/50, $22/100  Very fresh seeds

Serenoa repens 'Cinerea'             $10/25, $16/50, $25/100  These are from some nice palms.

Serenoa repens 'Georgia Silver'    $18/25, $30/50, $42/100  Check out my last post in the forum for pictures and the real story.

Serenoa repens 'Weeping'            $9/25, $14/50, $22/100      I have a post about this form in the forum also.  Here

Chamaedorea seifrizii                   $8/50, $12/100

Chamaedorea microspadix           $10/50, $15/100

Sabal tamaulipas                          $10/10, $18/25, $32/50, $50/100  These are the real deal, and the seeds are absolutely HUGE.  Very limited quantity, almost impossible to find seeds.

Copernicia alba                             $8/10, $15/25, $25/50, $35/100

Musa velutina subsp. markkuana (actually now just Musa markkuana)     $7/10, $12/25, $18/50, $25/100

Sabal sp. 'Tamaulipas' seeds (I couldn't find a ruler, so I printed one, LOL!)  Those are cm and mm.

173065294_SabalspTamaulipasSeeds.thumb.jpg.739efba4b27b8137e3dfc4e6da0ae0a0.jpg

PM me to order.  Shipping is going to be $3 still, at least for now.  I take a small loss usually charging that, as it's usually well over $4 at the post office.  Unless you're getting some of the small seeds and want me to stick a non-machinable stamp on there AT YOUR RISK (Haven't had any problems in this group yet with that method).  That method is free (for now), but has no tracking.

There are some palms around in private gardens, but nobody wants to part with their seeds, lol.  I’m trying to source more, but it’s probably too late.

My Sabal sp. 'Tamaulipas' should bloom this summer for the first time, and I'd be glad to part with any seeds, but I've heard that they may not produce any seeds until the 2nd bloom cycle.

thanks

They aren't from the very silver form, which some have said is a different species (N. arabica), but they have great color.  Attached is a picture from one of the actual palms.

You weren't kidding about the size of the Sabal tamaulipas seeds, do you have pictures of the parent plant?

Make sure to scroll down and see the reduced prices on the some of the previously listed seeds (Sabal 'Lisa', Copernicia alba)!

NEW SEEDS!  I have Sabal sp. ‘Tamaulipas’ back in stock in limited quantities again, and lower prices.  If you tried to order before and couldn't get any, I will let you have first dibs...I tried going back through my messages but not having luck finding those people.

Sabal uresana (green form) is from a palm started from seed from Merrill Wilcox's green S. uresana in Gainesville, FL.  I have pictures I will post of the one I got seeds from.  It's a really nice Sabal, and VERY cold-hardy!

The Trachycarpus fortunei 'Tesan' are open pollinated.  There is a male 'Tesan' nearby, as well as a normal male.  I'll post pictures of them also.

Sabal uresana (green form)  $9/25, $14/50, $20/100

Sabal rosei  $8/25, $12/50, $18/100

Sabal sp. ‘Tamaulipas’  $15/25, $25/50, $40/100

Sabal mauritiiformis  $8/25, $12/50, $18/100

Trachycarpus fortunei ‘Tesan’ (open pollinated)  $13/25, $20/50, $32/100

Rhapis excelsa  $8/25, $12/50, $18/100

Thrinax radiata  $7/25, $10/50, $14/100

Dypsis lanceolata  $8/25, $13/50, $18/100

Coccothrinax crinita subsp. brevicrinis  $8/10, $14/25

Pseudophoenix sargentii var. navassana  $7/10, $12/25

Arenga microcarpa  $10/25, $14/50, $20/100

Rhapidophyllum hystrix (Alachua County, FL)  $7/10, $13/25, $20/50

Rhapidophyllum hystrix (cultivated) - same prices as above.

(Cycas revoluta x taitungensis) x self (surrounded by males of the same cross)  $1 each

(Cycas revoluta x panzhihuanensis) x Cycas ???  (open pollinated with unknown pollen)  $1 each

Zamia angustifolia (hand pollinated) $1/ea

Zamia variegata (open pollinated) $1 each

Hyphaene coriacea  $1 each.  I only have about 70-80 of these.

Bismarckia nobilis Silver  $.50/ea.  I have about 150 seeds...haven't counted them but that's a guess.

In addition, I still have all other previously listed seeds except for Chamaedorea mircrospadix.

2021 seeds

Sabal 'DeFuniak Springs'            $8/50, $12/100

Sabal palmetto 'Lisa'                  $10/50, $16/100

2022 seeds

Sabal miamiensis                         $10/50, $15/100

Sabal palmetto 'Lisa'                   $14/50, $20/100

Rhapidophyllum hystrix (Chambers County, AL)        $8/10, $16/25, $28/50, $40/100

Rhapidophyllum hystrix (Washington County, GA - tied with a small population in Bibb County, AL for the northernmost population in the world) - Same prices as above

Here

Chamaedorea seifrizii                   $6/50, $10/100

Copernicia alba                             $5/10, $9/25, $13/50, $20/100

Musa velutina subsp. markkuana (actually now just Musa markkuana)     $7/10, $12/25, $18/50, $25/100

Sabal uresana (green form).  This palm is a beast.  It's also VERY cold-hardy!  Reports from Anniston, Alabama suggest almost no damage during the Christmas freeze where the palms were

exposed to 8F.

Trachycarpus fortunei 'Tesan'.  Again, one of the males nearby is a 'Tesan', but there is a normal male in the general vicinity.  Really beautiful form on these.

I forgot to add that I need to charge $4 shipping instead of $3.  I'm taking a loss at $3.  Unless it's a small order and I can put a non-machineable stamp on the envelope at your risk (there's no tracking), then that method is still free.  For the larger seeds (Hyphaene, Bismarckia, Cycas), shipping is $5.

Also, if you place an order with me, I will send you 25 free Chamaedorea seifrizii if you want them.  Just let me know!

My apologies...but I have butchered the name of one of those Cycas crosses.  I wrote :

(Cycas revoluta x panzhihuanensis) x Cycas ???  (open pollinated with unknown pollen)

The actual cross is this:

(Cycas panzhihuaensis x taitungensis) x Cycas sp.? (open pollinated with unknown pollen)

The other cross was written down correctly.

If you manage to germinate Hyphaene coriacea be sure to pot up right away into a tall container since it puts down a very long radicle before the first leaf appears.  Here is a photo of mine just a couple of weeks after germination in a 14" tree pot showing roots coming out the bottom.

What do you think is the best germination method for these? Any advice on how to shave them, or get the material that's underneath the shell off of them? Should I just plant them with it?

It's not necessary to clean the dried fruit off of the seed, but you can.  I forgot about some last year, and three of them germinated in a plastic bag left outside, with the fruit still on the seed.  You probably could scrape it off, but it's not important.

If anyone is wondering should they order from Bigfish (Frank) ?  The answer is heck yes.. I've ordered multiple times, and when permits, will do it again.  He's fantastic at communicating, ships fantastically, and quality of seeds is impeccable!  Cheers friend.
