Yucca love

Today I recognized that the flower stalk of one of my flowering Yucca (filamentosa/flaccida or hybrid between) is carrying 3 seed pots. So there must be an insect pollinating the flowers as I was out for holidays in Sweden while my Yuccas flowered. Very astonishing is that one of the pots is located at the beginning of the flower stalk. I was told that the upper and outer flowers are the best for pollination.

But nature doesn't care.

On this Y. filamentosa "aureovariegata" the two seed pots are made by me, it's a cross with Y. filamentosa "Garlands Gold" so two variegated Yuccas. As I was told that his would only create albinos I don't expect useful seeds.

This is faxoniana x rostrata I’ve showed it before. Maybe common knowledge to some…never would have thought a trunking x trunking yucca would put out pups? I’ve never seen a rostrata pup personally, don’t have very much experience with faxoniana. Cool as hell regardless

I’ve had rostrata occasionally produce an offset at the base. I have several of those hybrids, most have offset. I’ve kept them in containers until I buy land, yours seem a lot happier than mine. Maybe I should build a small bed for them. Is yours in a decent amount of shade?

Good to know on the rostrata. That gets full sun from 8am to sun down, almost full day. I’m excited to see what it will look like in a few years.

One of my Yucca treculeana crown splitting into 3?

The grasshoppers are destroying the leaves, so I'll probably clean up the trunk this late winter/ earl spring.

Treculeana seem to split off and multitrunk early in the wild like that . In cultivation I’ve seen a few of them forced into branching later .

The split is about 30 inches high, all of the other yuccas I have separate at about ground level.

It will make a neat specimen.

All fruits have been aborted. Maybe it's a problem that they have been self pollinated by me and ??? Had some other pods on a Y. filamentosa "Golden Sword" which have been aborted too.

I like it, sometimes the simple austere look is just as good as trying to create a landscape “scene”

Agreed. I like simple better than cluttered landscaping, but that is just my opinion

A few pictures from today. Plants are in ground since 2020 (faxoniana since 2022). Growth is slowly but this is caused by our climate.

Y. schottii, grown from seeds picked up in 2019

Y. linearifolia

Y. filamentosa x rostrata "Blue Swan", a real monster

Y. rostrata x nana,  a rare cross with very small leaves

Little Y. faxoniana, grown from seed. Will get some protection during winter times.

Will this become a true Y. rupicola?

My Yucca treculeana showing more pronounced splitting.  There are 2 heads in the front and 1 in the rear. I'll have to hand pollinate this plant next year and see if the progeny have similar growth.

Two of my hybrids are also splitting. One is a filamentosa x rostrata, the other is flaccida x thompsoniana. Will show pictures when I'm back home.

Looks like the dad is dominant.
