RJ
OKay. So your BxJ croaked as well? I see it listed at the beginning of the thread but no mention of it later on, alive or dead? Edited September 7, 2019 by RJ

yabazid
Bjxb still getting thicker and picking up height there. JxB here looking good and getting there slower but it’s much healthier than before. Lots peroxide saved it BJxJ is a fighter. Happy it pulled through as well. I am hoping these grow much more confidently in future winters as they pretty much established their roots in and perhaps thick enough 12

yabazid
Hey guys i know I just uploaded the updates for the hybrids but I wanted to get some insights for the BJxJ crown. Please take a look at the following picsand let me know what you think. I will start again with the peroxide weekly I guess. It fuzzed so much I was surprised!
8B palms
I too had this hybrid but it succumbed to the humidity after 2 years it was on a raised berm, I think more than 50% Jubaea linage in any hybrid in much of the southeast is just a struggle, a handful of people might have luck. I suspect if you can get them to a decent size 15 g plus, then maybe you have a better chance. I hope yours can get through this phase.
swolf
Looks like the BJXJ has pushed out the damage. Yes the humidity tolerance varies depending on the genetic reassortment. A systemic fungicide would provide some ‘insurance’. Here’s on older photo of one I have in humid northern Florida: 7
Love them palms
I live in mukilteo wa Z8B I have 3 from Patric 1 jubaea x butia yatay, 1 jubaea x BJ, 1 BJ x jubaea. all looking great. I have 2 Jubaea x Butia from mule palms of Mississippi that are not looking as great. All of them are in the ground now. Can't wait to see how they do

It helps the palm food reach the roots as well. But I'm tired of rain. Ready for the real summer
Love them palms
First 3 picks are from patric- jubaea x butia yatay, BJ x Jubaea and Jubaea x BJ The second 2 are from mule palms of Mississippi one of them was having a hard time in the pot but is now recovering with fertilizer and TLC.was going downhill when I got it second one is just ok. And I threw in a pic of my Butia x jubaea for the heck of it

Love them palms, you should post some photos here for all of us to enjoy their growth It’s been in the ground about 10 years. Planted as a sturdy but small palm (no more than a 3 inch base, maybe equivalent to typical 7 gallon size). Here’s a photo from this year, different angle:

yabazid
Landscaper probably didn’t do better and thought he cleaned it up. I’d be upset as well but oh well! so what is f3? What is it crossed back with?
SailorBold
As far as I know.. this is a Jubaea xbutia xbutia xbutia. Its somewhat slow.. but is becoming more massive every year. The leaves are getting huge..The palm was 85-90% defoliated year before last at 8-9f with a week of barely above freezing..(you can see damage from that still showing) but actually very hardy with leaflet discoloration to no damage any other year with temps in the teens. Im just bummed because it was still in recovery. Man.. Its pretty vigorous. Definitely faster than butia.. ( not sure about jubaea).. but becoming one of my favorites. I hope it speeds up a little.. im going to fertilize it like crazy now. Lol Before the rough winter...

OC2Texaspalmlvr
Wow I'm pretty sure I would be firing your landscaper. Those poor palms , the mistreatment they have endured =/ Haha kidding aside your F3 is getting real thick, we need a shoe or bucket in the pic for scale =) T J
yabazid
I did this collage to not have to post many angles and save space. This is after two weeks of treating with peroxide. please take a look and let me know what you think the reason for this yellowing. Thank you BJxJ

LeonardHolmes
What a great thread. Thanks so much for the pics. I hope to purchase a JxB for my zone 8b (barely) yard on the Outer Banks of NC. "Pindo palms" do pretty well here, but a few freeze every few years when we get a bad winter. How does hardiness compare to a "regular" Butia odorata?
