Forgot about the hidden gem I found at our local bromeliad nursery. 5g Rhapis for 55$ , a steal I couldn't pass up.

Even in this grueling heat I managed to plant a palm haha Normally a hole this size isn't fun with gumbo. Unfortunately with this drought the hole was actually fairly easy to dig. Minus the heat I knocked her out in a day. Now the only thing is I'm not exactly sure what species of sabal went in the ground haha Grown from seed off of @jimmyt trees so I guess in a couple years we may possibly know which one it is.

Only image.thumb.jpeg.9c595d6927acc3907b8ab21ae072a579.jpeg2 species I have primage.thumb.jpeg.b7933fd40e6329d17ae27af0a9d53ea0.jpegoducing seeds are mexicana and palmetto.  Neither one the 2 species that I have that produce seeds are top mexicana and bottom palmetto.  Neither produces flowers at the same time so they do not cross breed.  Chances are you chose the mexicana. The palms are a little wind burned from the drought and extreme heat we are going through

Cause of my poor record keeping I have no idea which of the seeds you gave me produced this palm. If we base it off pure speed it's got to be the mexicana, then again with my expansive container ranch it could be any sabal haha I did notice curly like hairs off the fronds.

Since we finally got some rain this week I was able to get back to digging holes in the yard haha 3.5 inches of rain absolutely softened up my gumbo clay. I may even dig some more tomorrow !!! Even tho it's still relatively warm got to 90° cloud cover and the pool kept me going. A 30" x 24" deep hole was dug finally for my BxJ. I back filled it with native gumbo and garden soil with Turface. I planted the BxJ 10' away from my S.Causiarum which im expecting to always have its canopy above the BxJ. Otherwise these 2 will be fighting for head space haha. Next up in line will be a Bizzie grown from seed and a S.Uresana. Not looking forward to digging the hole for the Uresana =/

I have no idea but they are lovely. Look a lot like coconuts.

I'd like to be under the sea in an octopus' garden in the shade.

So I bought the BxLytoWedd and planted closest to my front entrance cause I assumed it would be a slender mule. This bad boy is getting much thicker, faster then my BxPJT which got the prominent spot in the front yard. We shall see, really looking forward to these Patric hybrids to get some size.

@Dwarf Fan you would think that was the case but the BxLytoWedd is out growing the BxPJT in all aspects,  height and girth. Now maybe the BxPJT will catch back up in the cooler months and it taking a break from all this heat and drought.

Wow, okay that doesn’t make sense… but we will see, maybe in time it will be the tortoise that eventually wins the race!

This particular BxLytoWedd has been a rocket since I got it as a 4x10 from Patric. The first one I got as a band didn't make it passed its first winter in my container ranch. Actually I don't buy any bands from Patric anymore since I have a horrible track record =/ I think the only I have kept alive is a BxMonty which went into full sun almost immediately and into the ground at the smallest size. Don't baby your Patric hybrids is my motto haha

I wish our yard is as big as yours because there would be a few more palms that I like to grow . It never ends .

Yeah I went from a 1/4 acre in a subdivision to 1.3acres kinda in the country. About a 1/3 still needs to be reclaimed tho. Once I get all my larger palms in the ground then I can start sneaking in the smaller ones. The front yard which is about half the property will never really get filled in too much with palms. The backyard is a whole other story.
