those pictures are from his personal garden. he does have some beautiful kogies... i wanna say he has at least 10 and are all awsome looking. in a previous post i believe he made a post of pics of his garden and there should be a few in there.

Yes indeed they were brought in from Hawaii back in 95 as 15 and 20gal tagged as Hapala, but I knew they were not. I bought 2 and someone came and bought the remaining 15, Clark? They are to this day one of the best Palm deals ever! They were officially described by the botanists a few years later as Koghiensis. Check out Hodels book on Palms of New Caledonia and he also shows Grandiflora, which only differs from Koghiensis by having larger infloresence. I wouldn't be surprised if they are the same palm...Bob

koghiensis and grandiflora are definitely not the same palm. there are much more differences than just the size of inflorescence.

without taking the book first thoughts are many much more leaves for Koghiensis. Leaves are strongly erected which is definitely not the case on grandiflora. much more leaflets than grandiflora and a colored new leaf.

now by taking the book you can add that grandiflora's fruits are the biggest in the genus.

grandiflora is a really rare palm in habit and in cultivation. And one of the rarest from New Caledonia for sure.

I'm almost sure there are more Pritchardiopsis in cultivation than Burretokentta grandiflora.

so dumasii or grandiflora

inflorescence is not ok for dumasii and seems to be ok for grandiflora.

does is show a colored new leaf ?! dumasii do.

for me it's grandiflora 100% sure.

Hi mat, I have two large and fruiting Koghies that are so very different from each other. One is very upright in its growth and the other has very relaxed and heavy leaves. The one that is upright has wing like cups where the leaf meets the crownshaft, the other palm lacks this feature entirely. they both flower the same but the upright form has larger fruits. I've noticed the same things at Clarks jungle. Is'nt it possible that grandiflora might be a regional variation and environmental conditions are the key factor?...Bob

As Jeff said you have to show some pics. it's very interesting.

the only palm that can be confused with koghiensis is dumasii in my opinion. please show pics of both one you have.

about your particular question. neither you or me are able to say if grandiflora is a form of koghiensis. I'm not a botanist or a doctor in anything else. I don't know about you. I think JC Pintaud and Don Hodel have make a pretty good job on new caledonian palms and I trust them.

in my opinion dumasii is much more close in aspect to koghiensis than grandiflora.

about environmental conditions. you are right. there are some difference. koghiensis is not growing on the same kind of soil for example.

Any help on IDing this one. It's got one more original long frond. When they open, none stay above hoizontal. I bought as a hapla.

I'll try to take fotos tommorow, but the surf and Indian summer is happenig big time But you know what, the pic you posted Dean, that looks exactly like one of mine when it was younger. The freshly opened flower and the winged leaf sheath is what I see. Even Hodel was not shure when he was at my place.

I read again your last post. I'm not sure to have clearly understand what you mean. you think your palm is like wich one that Dean show. grandiflora or dumasii.

what you said in your previous description is that one of your palm have more relaxed leaves and more little fruits than the palm with erectec leaves.

this description completely fit with dumasii but definitely not with grandiflora cause of the size of the fruit for example. And i think this palm is showing colored new leaf. can you please confirm.

Yeah, It's a Burretiokentia. I bought a year ago from a now defunct nursery. Previous owner said "bought it at a palm society sale a few years ago"??? He told me he didn't remember, he just assumed it was a hapla.
