Hello travellers, some of you may remember a year ago I posted a topic about the exploration of this mountain range. A few pics of palms were on the site. This time, only one, that I have not been abble to,identify. Here it is, maybe some of you have good magnifying lenses And here is the link to the expedition. It is in french, sorry about that but there are a few beautiful pictures of the place. Two persons from the expedition are still on site exploring and sending news to this blog every other day. Hope you will go to it and enjoy the exotic heat... It is very hot down there they say and lots of rain. I will keep posting if I have news from them. I sent an email today. bruno http://www.makaynature.org/wp/?cat=1 .1 point

This is mostly for Ken Johnson, but I welcome any comments or experiences from all. I was in Hobe Sound, FL the other day and found a wonderful collection of the blue form of saw palmetto. I will be back there in two weeks with a backhoe operator. My intent is to see if I can transplant saw palmetto successfully? Can these be field dug and transplanted easily? Do they take transplanting well? They will need to make a 2 hour drive home, as well. or should I just go buy one? Last summer I had a backhoe operator dig a small field grown cabbage palm. I took it home and had in the ground within 30 minutes of excavation. The center spear came out in the first week, so I ditched it. Don't want to do it again unless I can do it successfully! thanks, bob1 point

My son and his two young teenagers enthusiastically collected a gazillion of these seeds while in Hawaii a couple of weeks ago. I can't begin to use them and hate for their efforts to be wasted. No cost to those of you who want a few. Caveat: You'll have to clean them yourself (not a difficult job). Forteen seeds weigh one oz and will fit in a first class envelope. I'll ship 'em out as long as my stamps hold out. No problem if you want more, say 50 or 100, but I'll ask you to pay postage. Pritchardia pac. have pleated leaves and are beautiful trees. Zone 10a/b or higher. Please pm me if you're interested. Lucinda1 point

Kathryn- It’s my pleasure. I’m a late comer and wish I had developed my interest in palms years ago. I guess a busy life and raising the kids (5!) precluded the time needed to be successful. I have the time now and certainly understood the excitement when a seed-s pop bringing in new life or just witnessing the growth development from potted seedling. I also wanted to state that this interest would not be as easily fulfilled without you all here at the IPS-forums, I have never been to a site with such helpful and giving people such as here. Thank You!1 point

I have a bunch of already-germinated Carpentaria acuminata seeds that I'll gladly send to those who want to try them. And I'll even pay the postage (US). There's probably 100 or so to divide among the first five requesters. Carpies grow fast and should be good for developing canopy fairly quickly. These are perishable... so PM me by Saturday. After that, they go in the compost pile. Lucinda M.1 point

FREE: I have a 25-year-old pygmy date palm (Phoenix roebelenii) that has begun to crest into multiple heads. The tree is about 12 ft. tall and is in the ground in Westwood / West Los Angeles, California. It is very accessible and will be easy for you to dig out. If you are interested in this free novelty, please contact David Leaser on my cell phone at 310-621-2319.1 point

Last time I went to the States, I purchased a 10-pack of small bubblewrap cushioned mailers. I thought these would be the perfect size for mailing small quantities of seeds . I collected fresh palm seeds the other day and since I have some extras, I would like to offer them to other forum members. I can send out 10 packets of seeds. Please see my thread in the main forum for photos of the palms Click Here I would rather keep this simple, so please choose only one species (by number) and I will mail you 10 seeds. Send me a PM with your name, address, and the species of your choice. If I get 10 responses, I will post and let everyone know when all the seeds are gone. Choices: 1. Socratea exorrhiza - beautiful stilt root palm with blue-ish/grey crownshaft Post 11 and Post 28 2. Neonicholsonia watsonii - shade loving palm, no real trunk to speak of, but it has long fronds that grow upright. Post 16 3. Bactris - not sure of the species, but it's a nice ornamental looking palm with spines (not super spiny). Post 4 and 5 4. Chamaedorea - not sure of species. It features wide ruffled leaflets and a very wide terminal leaf. Post 12 and 13 5. Big leafed palm - I still don't know what this palm is. I didn't collect many of these seeds, but I can spare two lots of 10 - first come, first served. Post 1 and 21 point

Hi Everyone. I went to Dick Douglass house on Saturday and he was gracious enough to give me a whole BUNCH of Sabal Riverside seeds from his tree in his front yard. I'm sure he can elaborate more on the history of his tree, if need be. At any rate, I only need about 50 seeds (and even then, that's too many) and I've got about 300 or so extra. I'm willing to send these out to whomever wants to grow them. Just PM me with your info and I can send you a batch of about 15 or so. If you want more (within reason) just let me know. I want to make it fair for everyone. I will send the stuff out on Saturday so y'all can get it soon enough. I'll just send seeds until I run out. I'll let you know either way. These seeds are pretty fresh, totally full and unwrinkled to partially wrinkled. And yes, I've cleaned them ALL so you don't have to. They're ready to roll!! :mrlooney: Oh, and on a side note, these seeds were MUCH more enjoyable to clean than the Arengas I did a year ago! Thanks guys and gals. I don't really want anything to trade, I just want to see pics of nice palm tree seedlings in 6 months! Patrick1 point

Hello Palm afficionados I just remembered U.S. postal rates go up May 11 and I got palm seeds left over. During last year's steep learning curve, I picked and cleaned a variety of palm seeds. This year I am SO over that. Anyway I divided the leftovers into 12 baggies per species and am offering them to Palmtalk members. The particulars: 1. The first 12 people to PM me with a name and mailing address will receive the seeds. 2. Take all or none. No negotiation, no haggling. Hey, they are free. 3. I want to mail all seeds no later than May 9. Species available: Acoelorraphy wrightii Adonidia merrillii Archonotophoenix sp. Coccothrinax sp. misc. (NOT the seeds in the sale subforum) Dypsis lutescens Phoenix roebellinii Thrinax radiata And I have 8 seeds from my fiendishly fecund queens. Say, "Syagrus" & I will include a couple. On your mark.....Get set....1 point
