  1. Philippe, it has been mentioned elsewhere, but I will repeat it here, the new ToS have been produced by the risk management committee, they have not been reviewed or voted on by the BOD. This just to clarify. I do think if the content license is adapted/clarified a bit, the ToS are acceptable. Best, TOBY Toby, the Terms of Service is posted on this website, and one agrees by using the site, to them . This is clearly stated on the PT homepage. It is very much stated as an official and in place right now thing. There no "Coming Soon." If this is a non-approved draft, then that should be changed to "Proposed Terms of Service" and the content watermarked "Draft." As you know, I am an avid fan of PT and support it by both small direct financial contribution, participation and by membership in IPS. And while I am member of the IPS, I am not so avid a fan of it. This apparent* continuous abandonment of procedures, protocol, and rules of order are of great concern to me. I hope that this will be addressed in a very direct manner at the Biennial in 2014. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT The IPS has issued a new "Terms of Service" outlining the terms that users of PalmTalk must agree to abide by, and be aware of, if they intend to continue using the Forum. All new users will be required to agree to these terms. And all present users are hereby noticed that these terms apply to them as well. NEW "TERMS OF SERVICE" *On the abandonment of procedures, not being a board member, I can only rely upon what I hear from existing sitting board members, several board members actually, and statements made here on this forum. I am not pointing fingers and wish to convey that I do not think in any case there is any ill will or malice involved. But procedures and rules of order exist for a reason and should be followed until formally changed.

  2. Mike took a day off from gardening a couple weeks ago so I got to dig some holes and plant some palms myself. Unfortunately it’s taken all this time to get a decent picture of them….difficult location and very bad light so the pictures are not as good as I would like them to be. The palms I planted were both Licuala fordiana. I chose a slope surrounded by trails because it would let people see the palms from both above and below. Mike on his day off. Lee Tracy

Why is it so difficult to follow the rules?

  6. I'll second that. If you like the look of these, you'll probably like archontophoenix cunningham as well. They look similar, but more elegant in my opinion. I believe, that a well grown A. cunningham looks better than a coconut.

  8. As the IPS is changing the ToS, there must be a means by which a user may redact or remove old content he or she does not want to fall under the new ToS. I cannot seem to find this feature. Surely we ought to be able to select which of our self generated content we are happy to surrender under the new terms and which content we choose not to, and so redact from the site. In the absence of such a feature, I think it would be acceptable to allow users to delete all their past contributions or at least sequester them until such time as a more selective approach to content publishing if offered to the membership. Offering these kinds of features is not unusual - in fact, all of the most popular, open-source forum and social networking platforms do so already. So, if there is no change to the ToS pending, we ought to at least be given a means of cancelling our membership and redacting all content generated prior to the ToS.

  9. That is photos. What about posts? Is there a button to "remove it all." Erase me from PalmTalk. I'll be honest, my first instinct is to use the nuclear option. Hit the button to remove it all, to the best of my ability. But I have learned in life to to go with my first instinct. As I told another earlier, I have been very active on PT for the last 7 years of my life. I am probably near the Top 10 of overall most active posters, period. I have been proud of that. I have both asked for support and supported others. I have made lifetime friends here. I have traveled to meet many, and some have traveled to meet me. Today, is the most tempted I have ever been to just hit the eject button. I feel that the leadership of PT has failed me, and others, in so many ways. Just days ago, I decided at the end of the year, to take a hiatus from Facebook, which I love, too. Not because of anything like this policy, but because with my new job my available time is short, and I was thinking maybe PT was more important. And now this. I have no idea what to think at this point. By the end of this week, I will decide on whether it is time to just pull the plug and quit beating this dead horse, or at least is seems dead at this time.

  10. Name is NOT on Kew's list of accepted name. However, there is the (no longer valid) name of Dypsis anovensis, which is a synonym for Dypsis linearis, a smaller Dypsis, similar to Dypsis nodifera.
