  1. Sounds like you are one of the few who knows what action was taken--can you shed light on what actions were taken? I am not asking for any sides--also can you express which rule/rules were broken so that a reminder be made for those of us who are concerned about following the 'yellow brick road'? Shed some light??? Really? To ME.....it's NONE of MY business.

  2. What Jeff said... if you have to wonder whether what you are saying or doing is questionable, it probably is a problem waiting to grow.

  3. Ok, all palmlovers in FL want/need a pressure sprayer. I am devoting this week to preparing our back lanai, which houses my potted palms, for the upcoming winter. Starting Sunday afternoon I moved all small plants outdoors, along with their groady shelves. After a hot, humid summer of bountiful rain, the lanai's concrete floor was coated with algae, mildew and assorted yuck. I didn't take a before photo because I didn't want to ruin anyone's appetite. Fortunately, we have had no cold nights yet. But soon..... Potted palms outside as seen through lanai screen Only my two largest palms, a lipstick and a dwarf catechu, remained on the lanai. My husband built the Areca the cadillac of dollies. I rolled them out of the way for cleaning. We borrowed an electric pressure sprayer from our niece. Monday afternoon I went to work. Before spraying I first had to soak the scum with buckets of bleach water. Some areas had to be bleached & sprayed 3 times to remove the offending microbes. But, wow, the results were spectacular! I cleaned about 2/3 of the concrete. Then I went to work on the shelving and finally, some of the dollies before it got too dark to see. Today/Tuesday I cleaned the rest of the concrete, then oiled the wheels of the dollies. I finished the morning by treating all the potted palms in the back yard with gallons and gallons of Merit to fend off mites, scale and other assorted nasties for the next 3 months or so. After lunch I freed the palms I had held captive in the house during this project. I treated them with Merit and considered spraying them with mancozeb to combat cold weather fungus. Instead, I hand-showered each palm (and myself). The mancozeb can wait till tomorrow. Clean, happy palms! That's all for today. I got to have a pressure sprayer.

  4. Wonderful Rudolf! I think all of us here enjoy seeing what others do to enjoy the plants we are passionate about! Some collect and nurture seeds and practice years of patience.. Some travel and photograph and study. Some work hard to earn money and then spend it to buy large trees and have others plant them. Some do whatever it takes to protect our palms from too much cold/water/wind/sun. Some move to where our favorite plants prefer to live. I enjoy reading and seeing photos about everyone's adventures!

  5. Well, patience paid off. Just today I looked and what did I see? Two of these over a year after flowering. So glad I held onto this to see if it would eventually pup.

  6. I am sure this questionnaire was prepared only with the best intentions, however, I do think the document is flawed for a number of reasons, many of which Jerry has already pointed out. I take particular issue with Exhibit A and the requirement to agree to it, to sign it and solemnly swear truthfulness. Sorry, but this does not sound like a questionnaire, more like something required by a court. - The IPS conducts most of its business by e-mail. Since when are we required to sign documents? The entire rest of the nomination process has been done by e-mail exclusively. - I think some of the points in Exhibit A could be desirable for our BOD, I do not feel that this really represents what the board of the IPS is about, however, it seems to be more a very individual view. At best, these could be recommendations, and they should be worded accordingly. - If the points in Exhibit A are to be requirements, we need to amend the bylaws accordingly. The nominations committee is not a suitable body to make such decisions. - I do not like the tone of most of the questionnaire and again I do not think this is how the board of the IPS normally conducts business. I am missing any fun and enthusiasm, which is why I have been on the board since 2002. My recommendation to all who need to fill this out to be successfully nominated as per our bylaws is: Fill out what you feel comfortable with and void the rest. Our bylaws require that you return the completed questionnaire, not that your sign it or swear anything. I am 100% sure the nominations committee will not cancel your nomination on this issue. My recommendation to the nominations committee would be to scrap Exhibit A and the requirement to agree to it. We must have a board discussion and vote on the issue, which can hardly be done before the upcoming deadline for nominations. Best, TOBY
