  1. (I usually don't bother to read most forwarded emails but this one made me chuckle a bit this morning, thought I'd share it here! ) 1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die. 2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong. 3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger. 4. There is great need for a sarcasm font. 5. How the heck are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet? 6. Was learning cursive really necessary? 7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood. 8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died. 9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired. 10. Bad decisions make good stories. 11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day. 12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again. 13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to. 14. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is. 22. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time!

  2. Hi Kris ! It's Brahea roezlii (not roezii), after a guy's name. Nothing to do with rose colour, so being. And it is regarded as a Brahea armata synonym nowadays. Here's the link: http://apps.kew.org/wcsp/synonomy.do;jsessionid=D4FAE97EC248880E0960A5BAF4B6CC9E?accepted_id=24005&repSynonym_id=-9998&name_id=24005&status=true Very smart repottig technique, btw. 3. Fortunately, over here the grasses used for cattle feed and grazing are never sprayed with any chemicals as they are considered inferior to the grain grasses such as wheat, rice etc. that are used used for human consumption. chemical fertilisers and pesticides being extremely expensive are used by and large for human-use crops. There was a time when my grandfather tried using chemical fertilisers instead of manure, back when we had a lot of vegetables growing. It did not have the deisred effect - perhaps the chemicals were not suited for our soil, perhaps the usage was done poorly - but in the end cowdung has shown very good results. The astonishing growth of our royal palms and the heavy fruit harvest of our mango trees is entirely due to application of cowdung.

  4. There is something else very insidious and dangerous about cow manure...."herbicide carryover". When some herbicides used to kill broadleaf in pasture are used, in the mixture there is one herbicide called called Picloram( and some others too), that travel all the way tru the digestive tract of the cows and afterwards spend some time in the compost heap, and...then are used as fertilizer with terrible results. The herbicide is still there, not all of it .... but just enough to shrivel and impede normal growth for years after in a so called "organic" plot... Organic gardeners in England found out about it first, most cattle farms use it ,even dairies that got their hay from other farmers using these herbicides, and then sold their manure...even this manure was toxic....for years. I am not saying these herbicides are "bad", no ...they are very good at controling weeds in grassland.....Which palms are susceptible to it? I dont know...good question for somebody informed.
