Hi.. Have always wondered why the leaves of the Bismarck Palm could be quite different from another Bismarck eventhough there is only one species of Bismarkia nobilis. Ruffled and non ruffled leaves (silver/blue). Any thoughts on this, please? Here are my photos. I find the ruffled (U/V shape) leaf is very attractive vs the flat leaf. thanks janie http://www.palmscapes.blogspot.com

Hi... Thought I'd share this 2 pics.(Thai Golden Banana/Musa siamensis) I'd taken a couple of weeks ago amongst other palm species for my blog. Only when I decided to upload photo to post yesterday, did I see this 'image'. My sis freaked out when she saw the posting! To me, it's just a streak in nature plus some fertile imagination. What's your thoughts?

Hi... Seems like recently my photos have taken an imaginative life of its own. The trunk of the Coccothrinax as seen through the eyes of the camera. Didn't note anything unusual then. Just click away. Do you see any different? Put on one's thinking caps a carving from the Pacific totem pole good weekend! janie http://www.palmscapes.blogspot.com

I'd say that if one owned property in Hilo and in Kona, they could have every single palm in the world growing well between the 2 places. I don't know if I'll ever live to see the day that someone has every single palm species in the world in their possession, but it's certainly possible.

Hi... Need to pick some brains again... Appreciate any info with the following plant I saw in an experimental garden. It may be tropical or warm temperate. Plant is a cluster. Slim petioles and elongated leaves with a scissor snip. Some splits occur near the tips while others along mid leaf or right to end of leaf giving two leaves with forked (Y) rib. Beautiful and lush. Some photos attached, any information/ID appreciated. Thanks alot! janie

Wow! you guys are terrific Jeff, Palmsza + Eric. Yes, that's exactly it. Am just so happy with this positive ID. Nevermind, it's like a palm but not a real palm, I'll definitely include it in my blog soon! Many thanks janie http://www.palmscapes.blogspot.com

Thanks, fastfeat... but it doesn't look like the peace lily at all. the leaf splits are more like the Tuna tail palm. however, the leaf splits are not consistently so. it.s an interesting form/shape and i will try to get its name for an update. janie http://www.palmscapes.blogspot.com

sick + moose, no worries, maybe a good thing too! just that in Malay folklore, up until now, most still believe that spirits reside in the banana trees. janie http://www.palmscapes.blogspot.com

Hi... Here is another unknown in the experimental garden. Normally, most have their species ID tag alongside but for this one, nowhere to be seen. Maybe recently transplanted. Looks like tropical fern but I.ve not seen before in local gardens(Malaysia). Again, I could be wrong since my take on plants is still juvenile. Any help appreciated. Many2 thanks janie

Eric in Orlando + Tropicbreeze - thanks very much for the insight. Eric's take on the rare cycad looks spot on too! Thanks again for narrowing it down for me. janie
