Great article Jason, thank you for sharing the link here. Either I am misunderstanding the responses or I'm afraid most of you are missing the point of the article. There was no assertion that Brahea edulis is literally native to the California/Baja California mainland. Guadalupe Island is just as 'native Californian' as are the Channel Islands north of the border. Together with the mainland these make up the California Floristic Province whose borders are what naturalists and scientists use to more accurately define uniquely Californian ecosystems and their flora. As I understand it, the article is hypothesizing about how appropriate B. edulis is for coastal California considering that it evolved with other very familiar mainland native plant species such as Monterey pine, Manzanita and Toyon, hence its 'native-ness'. I think it's a wonderful way to think about this palm species.

Kris, I took another long look at this thread and enjoyed it, the posts by others and your posts as well. It takes a long time to download pictures through my wireless internet service at the beach house so I waited to come into the city where I have much faster service. You know we´re going to ask for updates on all of your beautiful plants! One question my friend, who is Pana Rasiga? yours, Peter

I'm fine here (Oporto, Portugal), no problem having this tunnel below me!

I am suprised by how fast this flush came up. The caudex on this arenarius is still subterranean and the bottom of the pot is covered with oak and pine needles since the plant spent most of it's life under a bunch of trees. I noticed 1/2 inch leaves 8 days ago poking through.

I like this picture. It shows a man not defeated, but determined. Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, one of his Dypsis Lepto's has opened a frond since the fire went thru.

These pictures will make Kris sad..... But I think this CIDP will pull thru. The Crown and Fronds did see some trauma.
