Meeting is on Sunday May 6, 2012 @ 12:00 noon Located at the home of Tom and Eileen Mignerey 9649 North Eight Mile Creek Rd. Cantonment, Fl. I don’t think any of the Gulf Coast Palm Society officers are on Palm Talk, so I will post their meeting information I received. The spring meeting will be in Cantonment, Florida on Sunday, June 1 beginning at 11:30 am. The last information I have lists the officers as being located in Mobile, Dauphin Island, Loxley and Fairhope Alabama and Pensacola, Cantonment and Panama City Florida. They usually have several vice presidents to cover the large area. They meet four times a year and publish a quarterly newsletter. On Friday, August 23, HIPS will be presenting a video, Powerpoint, and slide presentation on last years IPS biennial at Nong Nooch Tropical Garden. Kona Danny will present a short video of the pre-tour excursion and sights of Bangkok and Nong Nooch. Tim Brian will present a Powerpoint / side show focusing mainly on the biennial and the palms of the garden. A portion of the meeting, which is open to the general public, will be a question and answer session on local palm culture. HIPS (Hawaii Island Palm Society) will meet September 23, at 1 pm with a tour of two gardens, first the garden of Matt & Tiffany Rippa and then the garden of Jerry & Cindy Andersen (formerly Ken Foster's place). Expect to see some unusual palms. Any people interested in palms who might happen to be traveling in Hawaii at this time should definitely make an effort to come see these two unique gardens.

Hawaii Island Palm Society Annual BBQ is February 3rd at the big pavilion in Wailoa State Park, Hilo. This is the Society's most popular annual event with good food and a great selection of palms in a 'silent auction' and a 'not so silent auction'. On Sunday April 15, HIPS will be having a garden tour and pot luck at the Lundkvist garden in Leilani Estates. The tour is for members and their guests. Come join us to enjoy a Sunday afternoon at one of the most beautiful palm gardens anywhere. Please bring a dish to share and appropriate gear for Hilo weather. WHERE: University of Hawaii at Hilo, Room UCB 114 WHEN: Friday, August 28 at 7:00 p.m. This will be a Power Point presentation and discussion by Scot Nelson, Ph.D who is a Specialist in Plant Pathology with the University of Hawaii at Manoa, College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. There will be photos and a discussion of palm diseases and pests using data collected from plant clinics over the last 11 years . "Bring your ' sick' fronds for Scot to analyze and identify the pest or disease afflicting your palms. It is best to bring specimens showing 'early symptoms."

To get to the garden: From Kea`au, take Hwy 130 past Pahoa. From the beginning of the Pahoa Bypass it is 5.7 miles to the Opihikao turn off to the left.
