It's that time again! Our March, 2011 meeting, on March 23, 2011. Be there, or be square . . . . This is a 21-year-old garden, entering its prime. Gregg Hamann, our host, started back in 1990 with a few Archontophoenix cunninghamiana, but he didn't stop there. The Hamann garden now has 401 different species of palms (species, not plants), including many Madagascan and New Caledonian species. Unlike many other gardens, the Hamann garden is unique for its use of relatively rare species for its canopy. There are literally scores of outstanding specimen palms in this garden. Mr. Hamann's favorites include: Syagrus glaucescens, Dypsis tsaratenensis, Dyp…

Schedule: 11:00 AM - The garden of Robert and Mary Moebius, 905 Calle Acopada, Camarillo, CA 93010 (at Camino Concordia). Mr. and Mrs. Moebius began planting the palms in this garden in 1974. Howdyall: It's that time again, and we're having our meeting in Orange County, the OC at two adjacent cheek-by-jowl gardens. The Palm Society of Southern California will be holding its November, 2012 meeting at the homes of John Boyer and Guy Young. They are next-door neighbors sharing a “friendly gate” at 21561 and 21551 Archer Cir., Huntington Beach, CA 92646 respectively. Please enter through John’s front door and continue straight through to the back yard. John decided in the mid-1990's, after a trip to Hawaii, that tropical landscape was what he wanted for his yard. In the meantime Guy, after visiting a palm specialist nursery, found a way to expand his …

THE PSSC’S MARCH, 2012 MEETING AND AUCTION The Palm Society of Southern California’s March, 2012 meeting will be held at the Los Angeles County Arboretum, in Arcadia, California on March 31, 2012. We will be in the “Palm Room,” appropriately enough. The staff will be glad to give directions. For those who have never seen it, the Arcadia Arboretum is one of the best of its kind around. Those who have been there before probably don’t need a reminder, but here’s one anyway. The Arboretum has a very nice palm and cycad collection, planted near the cottage used in the filming of “Fantasy Island” and a pond. There are other plant collections, famously includ…
