Hey all, I have a couple of these in 15 gallon pots I've had for 3 or 4 years. They have been outside in filtered sunlight for several months & look quite nice. I just need to de-clutter a bit. Also have a tall tree potted Howea f. that would love a good home....Oh!, and a couple pretty Archontophoenix from seeds collected in Balboa park, possibly alexandrae. Bret

Rhapis Excelsa - South Orange County

A friend of mine told me this beautiful clump of Rhapis excelsa is going to be removed by her HOA if someone else does not remove it first. I have seen it. I am planning on taking my shovel, a Sawzall, pruner, and some burlap sacks a week from Saturday and see what dent I can put in this thing to take back to the I.E. If anyone else has any interest in the rest of it and can remove it by hand the same day I'm there, I think they will appreciate it. Message me privately for South Orange County, CA location. I'll cross post this to IPS on Facebook. My friend does not want a crowd of people there. Just me and maybe another person or two.

Rhapis excelsa 'Tenzan'
by Darold Petty- 1 reply
- 1.5k views
I am offering for FREE a division of this choice Rhapis, I believe that my large plant came originally from the late Dick Douglas. Dick went through a Rhapis phase, and had numerous, named clones. It was divided from our large, houseplant about one year ago, and has fully recovered from the separation. No shipping, you must come to my garden for this plant. It has 3 large canes, and 3 smaller, new ones. Be aware that the palm is about 7 feet tall, so you need a vehicle that can accommodate this tall palm placed horizontally in your vehicle. First responder gets the palm, but you must arrive in a timely fashion, say in the next 2 or 3 weeks, Weekdays are OK as w…

Rhopalostylis sapida 'chatham island'
by MattyB- 10 replies
- 3.2k views
Chatham Island is the more robust sapida that grows faster and takes more sun. Darold was nice enough to send me a bunch of these last year and as Summer is fast approaching I'm thinking I wanna get them out of the greenhouse and into the nice cool shade. They seem to do much better on my shadey porch than in the hot greenhouse but I only need a couple of them, not 10! Anyway, I've got several of them to give away and pass along the generosity that Darold has started. Come on by and get one or two if you want. They're in 4" pots and could use a little TLC, but hey, they're free!!!!!! PM me. six one nine 206-7782 I'm stealing this photo from Paul. I think one of…

Rhopalostylis sapida "Chatham Island'
by Darold Petty- 4 replies

When I was a beginner, (a long time ago) senior palm people were most generous, with both their time and plants. Now it is my turn to 'play it forward.' This palm is the seed offspring of my large adult, it is perfectly grown in a Stuewe TP812 pot, it is six years old from seed, and needs to be ground planted. I would hope that this palm goes to a coastal garden rather than a hot, inland site like Walnut Creek or Concord. No shipping, you must come to my garden for this palm.

RIP RAP -- Broken up concrete
by DoomsDave- 2 replies
- 2.6k views
Howydall: I'm engaging in a renovation of Shangri-La Habra, which includes the removal of concrete walks, etc. The inevitable byproduct is lots of chunks of concrete. I could leave them for the garbage people, who in turn will dump them in a landfill, and the land will get too full. If you have a use for this let me know. It's heavy, you'll need a pick up, but I will, of course, be happy to help load it, and, if you like give a tour of the garden . . . . SHOOT ME A PM!
