Nice groundcover bromeliads - awesome flowers
by ThunderSRQ- 2 replies
- 2.1k views
I'm going to be thinning out these bromeliads and will save some if any local folks want them -- they are a short (approx. 12" to 18") green variety that spread very slowly and do great under oak canopy. Tim

seedlings of Brahea moorei
by Darold Petty- 2 replies

These two single leaf seedlings were a gift to me recently. However, I have failed four times with this species, most recently with a solid one-gallon plant that I ground planted three months ago. This is frustrating for me, as it is most beautiful when well grown. No shipping, you must visit my garden to collect them.

Donations for school appreciated
by Vincent- 1 reply
- 1.6k views
Hi. I am helping out the local Punta Gorda elementary school- Sallie Jones- with a landscape project. The school building is basically new but due to budget cuts, there is nothing for landscaping. I am gratefully accepting any donations of cycads, palms or other plants to make the school a beautiful place. I am on the west coast of Florida, 100 miles south of Tampa. I will drive in FL to pick up material and will pay for shipping out of my own pocket. If you have something you would like to donate, please pm. Thanks. Vincent Bodnar

I have a large clump of Chamaedorea microspadix that you can come dig. All I ask is to bring a few bags of garden soil to fill the hole. This clump is 7 ft tall & producing seed.

Bambusa textilis Kanapaha
by Palmə häl′ik- 1 reply

I've gotta thin out my boo. These things will eat up some real estate... Up fer grabs is a 25gal-ish Bambusa textilis Kanapaha (Royal Bamboo, Wong Chuk Bamboo). It's too wide to go into a 15gal unless divided... These were bought from the TampaBay area bamboo guru, Mr. Roy Rogers. This thing was a single caned, one gallon when I planted it. I bought five of 'em, so you can imagine where I'm at with these... Very tight, erect culms. She's right around twenty feet tall right now. ~Ray.

Free posts used for shadecloth structure
by Hilo Jason- 1 reply
- 1.9k views
Rather than put these in a landfill I figured I would see if anyone here had the need for any of these posts that I made for my shadecloth structures. These are 1.5" pvc, about 7-8 feet tall each. The base of each is a 8" x 8" concrete block with the PVC pipe cemented into it. I would bury the bases so you couldn't see them and it added more support to have them buried. These work good if you are looking to cover a section of your yard with shade cloth and not just 1 palm with a shade cloth tent. Pick up in Fallbrook. I have 8 poles available, and the cross section pieces. PM me if interested.

Yucca filifera 3 available local pickup
by Patrick- 1 reply
I have 3 poor, poor Yucca Filiferas that I will never find a place for. If you want one, or all, they're yours. They've been in these pots for several years they must be part cockroach because I think they are so resilient that they could survive a nuclear war. I'm going to take a line from @Darold Petty and request a few high quality IPA's to be enjoyed onsite whether you split them with me or I drink them all, it's all good either way. And no beers are actually needed for this transaction to take place. These poor old puppydogs need a forever home. Hopefully someone would be willing to take these off my hands. Local pickup.

Sabal palmetto seedlings
by newtothis- 1 reply

So I took a whole batch off a florida sabal and threw a few hundered seeds in pots. They are now pushing the 2nd leaflet and I've repotted as many as I need. The rest I would like to send out in return for the generous gifts I've recieved from members here. The only catch is I have not done this before and don't know the best way to remove from the community pot or package for shipping. So they may or may not make it So if your interested I'll do my best and send these out in batches of 10 or so. Just send me your info. If you have anything to send in return thats cool too

Free seeds of reclinata x dactylifera
by Phoenikakias- 1 reply
I have another batch from this cross, actually a neighbouring inflorescence to the one, I had on purpose cross-pollinated, received apparently also dactylifera pollen. I made the mistake however to let the derived infructescence for to long hanging, which enabled an attack of seed borers. So fruits/seeds are not tradable but after disinfection I suppose that in a sutisfying number of seeds embryo has been saved and those seeds have good prospects to germinate. Only a small gesture from me to mitigate the sorrow of european growers because of expected or confirmed winter losses. Europe only for financial and phytosanitary reasons. Send me a PM with your address.

Rhapis excelsa 'Tenzan'
by Darold Petty- 1 reply
- 1.5k views
I am offering for FREE a division of this choice Rhapis, I believe that my large plant came originally from the late Dick Douglas. Dick went through a Rhapis phase, and had numerous, named clones. It was divided from our large, houseplant about one year ago, and has fully recovered from the separation. No shipping, you must come to my garden for this plant. It has 3 large canes, and 3 smaller, new ones. Be aware that the palm is about 7 feet tall, so you need a vehicle that can accommodate this tall palm placed horizontally in your vehicle. First responder gets the palm, but you must arrive in a timely fashion, say in the next 2 or 3 weeks, Weekdays are OK as w…

Chamaedorea microspadix, large pot of three plants
by Darold Petty- 1 reply
I had 5 plants in the ground along the perimeter of my garden. After a gopher attack I had 3 plants with just a few roots, too few roots to support the plants and keep the stems upright. Rather than discard these 3 palms I packed them tightly into a large container. That was about 14 months ago. All 3 survived and have begun new growth, including new shoots from the soil line. I am fairly certain that both genders are present in these 3 palms. The overall height is about 7 feet tall. (I'm not kidding, can you get this in your vehicle ?) Please note that there are at least 2 forms within this species. This form has narrow leaflets with a green backsid…
