I have one specimen that have just starten coning for the first time. Only intuitively I tend to predict that cone will be female, but it remains to be seen. So I should attempt to establish connection with growers of this Cuycad all over the world (without specimens of bith genders), in order to plan timely a cross of our specimens, when gender of mine becomes visible. Ie I could collect pollen and send it over or store it in the freezer and in reverse case the other grower could the same for me.

Seeking seeds from: Rhapidophyllum hystrix and Sabal minor
by OntarioPalms- 2 replies

Hello, I am a palm fan currently living in a zone far too cold to cultivate members of the palm family in the ground without protection and artificial heat. I am looking for a source that will sell and ship palm seeds into Canada. I am in a zone 4 and am hoping to do a large grow out of palm seedlings for an experiment (different protection methods mostly- but also testing to see if there is much natural variability in genes or gene expression related to cold tolerance). Ideally I would be able to find a low cost source for seed sourced from northern/inland populations of these species to grow out. I think that select cultivated plants from beyond the native range wo…

Hello fellow PalmTalkers, I am based in the UK and there has been some excitement recently about Aloe 'Hercules' plants surviving our winters with a little protection. It certainly seems that this hybrid is pretty hardy and will grow even without high summer temps. Unfortunately there is no source of plants in the UK or Europe but I will be in Florida next week and California in April so I was wondering if any of you either have small plants I could buy or know of a source of small plants. From what I understand, it's pretty tough to grow from cuttings - but if any members were able to give me some cutting material I would gladly give that a try! I've seen that …

by KrisKupsch- 0 replies

Hello, I’m mostly seeking seeds of Wettinia species especially W.praemorsa, as here in Australia there appears only 1 Wettinia plant in existence. Maybe there are more but the entire lot of New World stilt root palms except Socratea and Iriartea are poorly represented in our collections. If anyone can assist please contact me. Here is a list of palm species in seed form, allowed into Australia. Thanks Kris https://www.agriculture.gov.au/sites/default/files/sitecollectiondocuments/biosecurity/new-legislation/lists/arecaceae-palm-seed-list.pdf
