Watch out for scammers!

First of all, I want to preface this thread by saying that I don't know 100% that these people are scammers, but my suspicions have been raised enough to make me post... I started a thread last week asking for Cycas revoluta x debaoensis seeds. A Palmtalk user who has no post history sent me a message saying they had received these seeds from @MattyB and gave me an email address to contact him on. I sent an email and had some slightly strange interactions with someone called Pete who, at first, wasn't forthcoming with information about where they had sourced the seed from. I suppose in my desire to source these seeds I was willing to look past this, and I proceeded t…

Coccothrinax Azul - in CA, South FL or shippable
by Hilo Jason- 10 replies
- 1.8k views
I'm looking for a Coccothrinax Azul to add to my collection. I will be in South Florida in a couple of weeks, so if anyone here on the board from there has some or knows of some, please let me know. 3 gallon size would be preferred since I'll be travelling and can't bring anything large home. I've checked most of the southern california nurseries for these, but if anyone knows of any, please let me know. Finally, if anyone has a 3 gallon size and is willing to ship, that would work as well. Thanks!

Frost-resistant palms for zone 7a

Hello everyone! I apologize in advance, I am writing via google translate. There was a desire to start cultivating or even popularizing palm trees in my region (Krasnodar, Russia). A small part along the coast belongs to zone 8b - palm trees grow there, but the rest of the territory is 6b-7b, where I am. The palm tree for our people is an alien plant, so few people try to grow them, there is even no need to talk about selection and hybrids. That is why I am writing here, since I cannot find suitable varieties in my region. But it seems to me that our climate is quite suitable for these plants. Summers are predominantly dry, 95-105 degrees, winters average 25 degrees, bu…

I'm going to be driving from TX to FL next week and I'll have some room in the truck. Looking to grab a few smallish (3-7gal) palms that they don't typically sell in my area, specifically silver Seneroa Reopens, Acoelorrhaphe Wrightii, and Copernicia Alba. Can anyone recommend a place that may sell them? I'll be in the Villages and Orlando, but willing to travel a little if anyone knows for sure where they'd be available. Thanks

12 Million Palms Wanted
by Dypsisdean- 10 replies
- 1.8k views
I received this email from an apparent date producer in India and thought I would ask here if anyone knows if this is doable by anyone. "i need high yield dates seedlings produced by micro propagated / tissue cultured seedlings - 12,00,000 seedlings we need this year. If you are interested in exporting dates seedlings please reply" If you have any useful info I'll pass it along. I realize the quantity is a typo, but that is the way it was written. I assumed he meant 12,000,000 but am unsure.

Does anyone know where you can buy Washingtonia Filbusta

from a reputable source? I saw three large ones today in my area and have seen others here and would like to give growing them a try. I believe the Filibusta variety is more hardy than the Filifera but please correct me if I am wrong. I am not actually able to distinguish the difference but I assume the ones I have seen in Augusta are Filibusta. They have survived the snow storms without almost any damage and I would love to try to grow some. The picture below is not the ones I saw today but a different one I saw a few months back.

Black cinder/obsidian
by LJG- 9 replies

Is there anyone in Hawaii that would mind getting a few box loads of the crushed black cinder/obsidian like found in the Hawaiin mixes like Jeff Marcus uses? The stuff can be shipped via Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Boxes from the USPS - 12” x 12” x 5.5. Willing to pay for time, effort and whatever else. I have spent days driving all over looking for this stuff in SoCal and the best I can find is the crushed pumice or colored volcanic decorative stuff. I need the crushed black cinder/obsidian as it has the minerals needed by many of my pain in the azz NewCal plants I grow in pots.
