  2. Maybe you're thinking Archontophoenix. I wouldn't call a palm that grows 1 new frond a year as a juvenile fast! They might be quicker in places like Hawaii and Thailand where everything seems to grow fast. Check this thread:
  3. That's a hard one...has it ever flowered?

    Livistona australis

They look pretty rough Phil, do you reckon they're survivors of a cleared littoral rainforest?
  5. It's curious to see how much the Alexandra palms have grown in 8 years, while the Purpurea palm is much smaller in 7 years, even though they're the same species! I didn't know that the Purpurea palm loses some of its color in the crown when exposed to sunlight. Yes, I need to look into the climate here more closely. In winter, I notice they stop growing; we even get down to almost 0 degrees Celsius on some days... and in the middle of summer, being near the sea with the humidity, I notice they grow quickly, even on hot, humid nights. What fertilizer do you use on your Archontophoenix palms? I've heard about Osmocote. Now I use this

No mor palm purchases for me.

That’s so sad you can’t even grow one of your loved palms. When I know how much we all love to grow palms. They are such beautiful plants Mother Natures gift to the horticultural world. This is one reason our bio security is so strict, the crb is one example of bio security gone wrong with your government letting you down when you comply with the rules they don’t!

So I imported 3 varieties of seeds

Yep it’s basically a fine I got for doing something wrong that wasn’t even my fault in the first place , I had all the phytosanitry certification. I would not dare import anything without the correct paperwork heaven forbid one strike with customs and wherever you go it’s into the room for a full body search. 🔍

CRB? AN acronym used by at least 8-9 sources "CRB" most commonly refers to a Credit Reference Bureau (financial data), the Copyright Royalty Board (US government), or CRB Group (engineering/construction). Other definitions include the Commodity Research Bureau Index, Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle pest management, or the former Criminal Records Bureau (now DBS in the UK). What CRB are you referring to?
  13. I heard they move fast as lightning

No mor palm purchases for me.

You could plant small ones like Chamaedoreas or medium-small heavy clumping ones like Bactris, Pinanga or Ptychosperma.

Bridgeport Sabal Palmetto CT Notable Trees

PALM REPORT 2026 Hi, Wiithout any supplemenetal heat,[which many Palm enthusiasts do to enhance survival] Babshi ,our Sabal palmetto, in Bridgeport, certainly took a real beating by the winter 2025-2025; she lost 2/3 of her fronds, but her spear is strong and im sure she will recover well in a few months with some feeding and care and now seeing the daylight. we will post pictures thanks, DrZ...naturally
  16. With the introduction of the CRB I'm not buying any more palms. It's enough of a battle to keep the one's I have alive. As they die I think I'm gonna replace w/some native plant. Sad day on the West Side of O'ahu.

  19. Surely you're not referring to Pseudophoenix sargentii!
  20. Any ideas what this one might be? Germinated last summer and repoted so there's no visible seed. Somehow I skipped writing name on the pot. Light lime green color, overwintered under canopy better then King palm same age.

    What does my Sylvestris need?

Phoenix palms are beautiful, truly admirable. I hope you manage to buy more varieties, like Reclinata or Theoprasti. Also Roebellini, but hopefully they're purebred.

So I imported 3 varieties of seeds

I once got a $100 fine from the Feds for sending some Pritchardia marti seeds w/flesh still on to someone on the mainland.

Yea the CRB is gonna wipe the out. There is plenty of "mulch" in the forests for them to breed/mature in. Problem there/here is that the government did NOTHING but watch them spread when one or two hopped a ride on an AirForce jet coming from Guam.

    @Merlyn Thank you!
