What is bugging me

Featured Replies

I was walking by my Dioon mejiae which is flushing and still has soft leaflets and noticed a couple of damaged leaflets. I looked more closely and spotted a grasshopper on another leaf. I successfully grabbed the grasshopper and could see it had already eaten a leaflet on that leaf.

Grasshoppers seem to like my Dioon flushes and my Encephalartos inopinus. It really bugs me when I find these grasshoppers on my plants. What bugs you?

wow tracy. that dioon is a beauty. it almost looks like you are in florida just seeing how lush everything is.

what bugs me? when you wait three years for a cycad to flush and it flushes one leaf. like len said once ... its almost like its sticking a middle finger in your face. LOL

its weird ... dioon's dont do well for me in the ground. in pots they thrive but in ground they languish for some reason. maybe its my desert climate with the extremes.

My number one enemy is scale, can’t stand the little life sucker creatures.

Have’nt seen a grasshopper on my plants in a couple years but early season flushes from around April through June I have to be vigilant inspecting new flushes for caterpillars. This year was’nt bad as I only found about 5 of them. They are very small but can do alot of damage!

Urban Rainforest Palms,Cycads and Exotics. Were in San Diego Ca. about 5 miles from the beach on Tecolote canyon. It seems to be an ideal growing climate with moderate temps. and very little frost. Vacation Rental in Leilani Estates, big island Hi PM me if interested in staying there.
