Finally decided to plant my palms I since my garden has clay soil I used 70% native soil and 30% well draining soil with perlite and watered it deeply is there something I’m missing ?

    Looks great! I would amend with garden soil at least once a year . Keep a circle around it at least as big as you have and top with wood chips . Over time , as the wood chips decompose, it will keep the soil healthy and help the clay soil . I do this annually here and it makes a difference in moisture retention and absorption. Harry

    Harry is right.  You need to clear at least a 3 foot ring of grass and then use a shredded hardwood mulch.  It will break down quickly and add nutrients and structure to the soil.  Remulch when it breaks down to less than an inch.  I never plant anything directly into a lawn.
