Tad,

What's so special about those Agaves?  They would appear to be Agave Americana V varigata, but I'm sure they are not. What are they? I have both types, with the white on the edge of the leaves and on the inside. The ones with the stripe down the middle of the leaf seem to be more cold hardy.

My buddy in Dallas has the one with white on the edeges of the leaves and his got a little nipped by the cold this winter, but all the inside leaves look fine.

Dick, these are a quadricolor agave lophantha, here is a better picture, these are just little ones, you can see it has different stripes throughout the leaf, and whats so special, have you seen them on the market?

I have but in very small quantity and kinda pricey, so I plan to put these into production so I can sell them back to my broker !!

If I have not seen a granule or two of those eleven herbs and spices I would have just assumed it was pure amonium nitrate.  I am finding that harde to get by the way, as there is more government notice on that one for obvious reasons, my local farm coop quit carrying it.

I use a couple of different blends of fert during the year, depending on what, when, where, including nitrosol,and my all time favorite government black listed item, ANHYDROUS :)

the plugs are going to another farm, they will probobly go into 3 gallons with stakes and sit for a while, then into the field. I will be occupied this weekend but weekend after next I will be here.

Tad,

As it turns out, a friend gave me an Agave lophantha a couple of years ago. It takes a lot of sun to get the pink color in it. It's really one of my favorites and now it's throwing out two pups. I have not seen it for sale anywhere, but then I haven't been looking for one. I understand it's one of the smaller growing agaves and I was told it's pretty rare.

One thing I've learned about the Agaves is to plant them with the soil level near the rim of the pot. That way the tips of the fronds don't press against the inside of the pot and the pups are eaiser to remove.

maybe rare in cultivation in the states, but occursfrequently and commonly in Mexico, still its a nice agave, i dont understand the pink part, I will post some pics of my regular lophanthas later
