Pygmy Palm

Featured Replies

Do I need to move this pygmy palm into a bigger pot?  Currently, I believe, in a 36x36

Oh wow that’s a beauty, somewhat repotted a bit high in the container that’s for sure, perhaps it may need a new container but it will have to be a deep container. Repot it up to the base of the palms, there are a lot of roots exposed there. Whoever repotted it last was way off getting it correct, mind you though it’s an interesting feature the way it is. I suggest a deep container but one that’s not too wide. I don’t know how much of a root ball it has, but it definitely needs a bit of soil around those roots!

I'd have never thought that these, or anything else would survive such conditions, WOW.

@happypalms Thank you for the positive input.  I was not the person who potted it in it's current home so I'm unsure how to know or tell how tight the root ball may be.  I would have to guess that it's fairly tight for it to grow up and out like it has.  It's pushing out a lot of new fronds so she appears very happy.  Anxiously awaiting for the appropriate weather to get her back outside!

Definitely gonna take a large pot for that one , that exposed root ball needs soil . These are very forgiving palms as long as they get regular watering. It will grow even nicer once it gets a new pot. Harry

Are you able to find a larger pot than that 36"x36" that you have... I looked far and wide for a plastic terra-cotta looking pot that was larger than my 36"x36"... I found a 42", but it was very expensive...

Oh, and I forgot to mrntion... This 42" pot isn't too heavy on it's own, when full of potting soil and a decent palm tree, I wouldn't try to move it... It's very heavy and awkward...

Thank you... The fascia behind the palms is approx. 8' off the ground level...
