Blue decipens

Really a magnificent palm. Stout, but not overly large, moderate grower, and good color especially after losing a leaf sheath. Prominent basal leaves on extraordinary long fronds add to the picture. Planted early 2012 from a 1 gallon.

Very unique palm and one of my favorite Dypsis/Chrysalidocarpus out there. I love the contrasting leaflet and trunk colors on yours. Also, that’s excellent growth!

spectacular palm!  One of the top 3 palms I cant grow!  Thanks for the pics!

Formerly in Gilbert AZ, zone 9a/9b. Now in Palmetto, Florida Zone 9b/10a??

Looks great!  Mine is a small one gallon now, and it grows well even small compared to many in the genus.  I'm hoping it can deal with Florida heat for a couple months in summer and the occasional dip below freezing in winter (extreme would be 24 or so). Doubt it will even look that stunning though!

That’s a beauty. Harry

Tim, Paul Latzias sent me those pictures above along with an C. ovobontsira sp. metallic the other week. I guessed they'd come from Hawaii, but had no idea they were yours. Really lovely palms.

Paul also sent me this image the other day, which made me chuckle. From left to right, Michael Smith, Harry Edwards, Ben Allgood, Josh Sullivan, Bruce Lowe, and finally Paul.

For those of you that frequent Facebook, I’ve set up a group called “Pommy palms”, where many of the palms I’ve seen since emigrating to Australia have been documented. If you wish to be a member, copy and paste “Pommy palms” into Facebook to view the page and click “Join group”.

Is this really regarded to be Chrysalidocarpus (Dypsis) decipiens?  It looks rather different to me, understanding that I am not too wise about palms.

First off, I can’t believe I misspelled decipiens…..ufta!

Jonathan, Paul and I have been pathological palm buddies for about ten years now and we share palm info and photos almost daily. Fortunately I’ve met most of those guys in that caricature in person…..we laugh a lot.
