Our new space for breeding exotic species

This is our new room.

It is open at the top. We will close it with a tarpaulin.

On a table, we have mixed coconut fibers with perlite and a little bit of potting soil for the seeds.

Unfortunately, it is still damp, as is the palm soil on the floor. We are letting it dry.

Great harvest, Mazat. You'll have palm trees when the world ends.

I'm getting ready to build another 8 foot bench made from some repurposed shelves, rehang the shop lights I replaced with some grow lights, and I need to unbox the heat mats I got on a Black Friday special. I think I might have a problem.

Yes, I understand, John. How is Sancho?

When the mats arrived, we had also ordered something else with temperature and thermostat controls. In addition, it would have been better to have the original mat with an adjustable temperature range of 20 degrees Celsius to 42 degrees Celsius. Returning it is pointless; we will test it now.

Man, Sancho is doing great! I've got him on a few different supplements plus his pain meds, and he's like a puppy all over again. He's full of energy and running and jumping and just a happy little guy. I almost feel guilty for having the GoFundMe for him, but it's paying for his meds so there's that.

Anyway as far as heat mats go, I've got thermostats on most of mine now, except the one with the banana seeds is on a switch. The ones I got for $9 just have a knob to control the temperature, but worst comes to worst I can get another thermostat for them. I kinda like the Inkbird just because I can check them from anywhere, but the downside is they're difficult to figure out at first and sometimes it seems like they cool off a little too much. Now I've got them programmed to cut off at 88°F and cut on at 79°F so that should be perfect, but sometimes they do cut off below 79 but i can turn them right back on. I dunno what those cost there, but I got this one for right around 20 bucks which is the same price as the normal single probe ones.

Oh btw you can get an extension cord with extra outlets and daisy chain multiple thermostats into a single heat mat. I also wish someone had told me the thermostat probe was supposed to go IN THE SOIL in a pot lol. I learned that the hard way.

I'm very happy about that, and so is Sabine, because of Sancho. We love dogs too. That's great news.

Thank you very much for the helpful tips and comments.

Sabine was already upset that what should have happened didn't happen, but there's nothing more you can do than select it online and fill it out...

I'll give Sancho some belly rubs and a treat from y'all! It makes me feel so good to see him doing zoomies around the house and running into everybody's bedrooms to check on them. Everybody leaves their doors cracked and he just pushes them open with his nose and runs around... It's like he's a puppy again. I can barely keep up with him now.

I've got 2 thermostats with extension cords plugged into them running 3 heat mats each. The thermostats said they can handle 1800 watts and your standard 10x20 is like 20 watts or so. Nothing has caught on fire yet, and I've still got an entire table I need to finish setting up. I'm gonna start doing some experiments with lighting in my room and posting updates on my thread, too. I've been reading a lot from the weed forums and I'm gonna be doing these experiments on my Wall of Bananas.

We tidied up and lowered a lamp, otherwise we watered where necessary depending on the situation.

The substrate dries quickly with the heating mats. Oh yes, we got the table for free, it was standing with two chairs on the side of the road.

A little Christmas present 🤗

PS: Of course I helped, it wasn't just Sabine who tidied up 😁

IT BEGINS!

Can I just say one thing? I'm having much better results with tube style lights vs the bulbs, even shop lights are fine if you're not actively trying to fruit or flower. If you guys are renting, you can use those double sided 3M command style hooks to hang them from the ceiling, and Amazon has some really cheap deals on chains for lowering them. Your light will be dispersed a lot more evenly, even if it's not as pretty. Maybe Sabine can go and have a talk at someone at a hardware or big box store to get a deal on those too 😂

Seriously you've got a nice looking setup there and it's just a matter of time before you outgrow that area.

After more than four hours of hard work, not including tidying up, the room is now sealed. We are very, very happy about this and would like to thank Otto once again, as well as my father-in-law Küde, Sabine, and myself for managing to sand down the frame, which was too big at the beginning, fix it at the entrance, and then seal the entire length on the sides. Finally...

My twin sister Lisa gave us a greenhouse as a gift when she visited us last weekend. Dimensions of all greenhouses: width x depth x height - 69 cm x 49 cm x 159.8 cm / 27.1635 in x 19.29134 in x 62.91339 in,
3 shelves inside. We already had one. Then we got another one for $11 and another one for $8.90 from friends of the store manager at a discount store, and at the same time we got another one completely reduced because it had already been opened by customers. Now we have four.We placed them back to back and put the heating mats on Sagex today at the bottom. This way, the heat rises and heats everything from the bottom up, or so we hope.
