Bugs on seedlings

Featured Replies

For a while now I have noticed that a lot of my seedlings have these small bugs on them. Mostly beneath soil level, but some also on the petioles/leaflets. I think it is scale. I tried several methods to get rid of them but beneath soil level they keep surviving. Any suggestions how to get rid of them definitely?

The first photo is scale; I'm not sure what I'm looking at in the second as it isn't very clear, but presumably the same thing.

I'd use a systemic insecticide containing acetamiprid watered into the soil.

Yes, there are a few on the second picture too. Thank you for your advise! Up till now I have only tried to spray it on the plants, never thought about watering it into the soil.

A systemic is a little different than the typical spray. I don't even remember what I've got, I've only had to use it once - but it's a different kind of insecticide that is absorbed by the plant itself rendering it toxic to them. The brand I use is Bonide.

I was not familiar with that, not sure if I can purchase such a insecticide over here but I will check that. Thank you for the explanation!

I'm sure something exists. Just look for a palm safe systemic. Worst case scenario there's a few EU members here who can help you find a suitable product. Good luck and happy hunting!

Thank you, I found some capsules that should do the same trick.
