In England, they have beautiful palm trees. It's a luxury that they have palm trees too, my friend.

I've never seen such a thick-bodied recumbent tree. A friend has a recumbent tree with a good trunk and shoots.

There is not such thing as a purest variety. P reclinata extends from west Africa (Senegal) to south-east Africa and Madagascar. Therefore it is quite variable. It is only a matter of availability of the various forms. The big one of mine looks for example very similar to the population growing in Kenya.

Well, it won't be pure, but it will have a more refined trunk and not as leafy.

At the Botanical Garden in Naples, there are many species of phoenix, and there are also many hybrid species. It's a shame that almost all of them are steril(the hybrid)

Not a common palm at all, especially here in the UK.

This is the Reclinata at Tremenheere in Cornwall. It has got multiple side shoots making an impenetrable radius. I saw some seeds on it, which may be pollenated by a nearby Sylvestris, or one of their CIDP’s, but I didn’t want to die of blood loss getting them.

These have got to be the only reliably documented specimens of either species growing above 45N latitude, although I think there are some in London too. I know the Reclinata’s in the coastal regions of western France died from about -8C back in 2018.

Great pictures, thank you very much 🤗

We didn't know it was thriving so well with you. It's good that you left it alone, even though it was tempting, right? Health comes first. .

Beautiful! Only in my dreams in my super dry garden with less than 200 mm annual precipitation. Italy has a similar climate with Greece, in particular the region around Naples. So it is impossible a natural cross of reclinata with canary according to personal experience. Reclinata blooms in the mid summer while canary blooms in autumn. Roebelenii may have overlapping florition with reclinata and perhaps also rupicola... @gyuseppe your opinion on the matter please!

Yes Konstantinos, here at my place they almost always flower together, reclinata and canariensis, all the seeds collected in my area, I am 15 minutes by car from Naples, they are hybrids, and here there is also plenty of water, they grow quickly

You have less than 7 inches of rain annually near Athens!? Surely not. 🤔

There are places here in England that have only had about 7 inches of rain so far in 2025, although that is likely to go up quite a bit in the subsequent month ahead. It has also been a very dry year here this year. But having 7 inches a year is just madness.

Los Angeles is very dry and they still average 14-15 inches a year. I know Athens is the driest capital city in Europe, but it isn’t that dry. It gets about 430mm / 17 inches annually I thought?
