I forgot the second half. Purchased from Flora Grubb (hello @JasonD ) maybe three years ago. I put a deposit on it while they were still growing it to “sellable” size in SoCal, waited almost a year, and then convinced them to just sell it to me anyway (and at a discount since it was so small).  I was pretty sure it would grow faster here than there. Hopefully it turns out to be the real thing!

If the leaves stay on one plane, you should be in good shape! Good luck.

About a week ago I’m not sure that this seedling would have been in my top 5 but after I planted it a couple of days ago, it’s the palm I’m going to cherish the most. I’ll be pampering it and really rooting for it to make it since it’s from Mercury (Palmad Merc). From Sydney to Cali.

I don't really know about how rare one thing or another is. I can tell the ones that are common, and then the ones that are less common.

The less common palm species I have in my collection are:
--Licuala mattanensis var. paucisecta ('Mapu').
--Chrysalidocarpus mananjarensis (mealy bug).
--Chrysalidocarpus prestonianus.
--Chrysalidocarpus baronii 'Black Petiole'.
--Licuala kunstleri.
--Masoala madagascariensis.

Probably none of these is too rare, just difficult to find and uncommon.

I grew them all from seed.

Trachycarpus princeps. Not particularly rare, but not seen in nurseries either. Here's mine in a one gallon pot.

I had assumed it was possible, but hadn't seen one until it showed up at a CFPACS auction in Spring 2025.  @PalmBossTampa outbid me for it, but decided to relinquish it at the Summer 2025 Meeting.

I was glad to route it to the rightful keeper after a visit at my place. I hope you are having success with it

Hell yeah. Don't even get me started on the Pygmy Date Massacre in Atlantic Beach every January.

I’ve seen majesty palms survive winters here, those should count in this.

And there’s my queen palm I had survive unprotected, although I did have to move from that property so it’s probably dead. But in my heart someone kept it alive lol.
