We have a King hybrid and it's been in the ground since last fall. We are in Goodyear AZ. It Was doing great! Now we just got back from a weekend away and see the new growth died. What do we do from here? The tree is under warranty. Can it still survive?

Looks like there's a fungus infection.  Give the damaged spear a light tug and it will likely come out.  Apply some household hydrogen peroxide in there and you'll probably hear some fizzing.  The apply some fungicide about an hour after the peroxide.  These palms grow fast in the hot weather so you should see new growth soon.  I think it'll recover just fine.  By the way, it's a pindo (Butia sp) crossed with a queen (Syagrus romanzoffiana).  I don't believe it's possible to hybridize a pindo with a king (Archontophoenix sp).

Moon Valley Nursery made up name I'm willing to bet.

Piru King Palm®
Syagrus romanzoffiana 'piru' x Butia Capitata ‘King'

Cold and Heat Tolerant
Easy to Grow
Low maintenance and little pruning
Exclusively available at Moon Valley Nurseries

For the price the OP likely paid for it, I would be calling them and telling them to get a replacement in the ground ASAP.

Yes it is that exact palm from Moon Valley.  Piru King Palm which is their version of a Mule Palm. It was expensive but the previous owners had purchased a couple queen palms that died so they gave us credit and we purchased the warranty just in case. I will give them a call.

Awesome.  Win/Win for you.  Mules are much hardier, I'm kind of surprised it took damage in your climate.

Me too, I called and they are sending out a arborist to look at it, instead of just replacing it but I will definitely get a replacement if it can't be saved. It must be a fungus because it really happened so quickly.

Ha ha, I forgot about Moon's goofy names!  I'm familiar with their name for Syagrus romanzoffiana but wasn't aware they had a name for Butia also.  Very confusing.  If they don't replace it they should follow the steps I gave to save it.  I don't think it'll be set back much at all.  This past winter I had a slightly smaller mule spear-pull and now you can't tell there was ever any problem.

I sure hope so, I will let them see it first, if I do it, they would probably say I voided my warranty.

UPDATE

The arborist took 3 weeks to get here, but in the meantime I've been doing peroxide and copper fungicide every 2 or 3 days. I can definitely hear fizzing.

They pulled on the middle spear and it came out, and they said its dead and won't survive. We picked out a new palm and had to buy the warranty.  I think that's how they make their money. They don't care if your Palm tree dies. You just have to keep purchasing that warranty.Which covers the cost of the tree. The arborist seemed more interested in trying to get us to let them trim our big trees for $1800, HARD NOOO.!!!

So here is what it looked like when they showed up last week, and what it looks like now, what do you all think is it a gonner or does it have a chance? Do I keep treating it, is there anything else I can do...
