Where can I get the X Butiagrus nabonnandii (Mule Palm) in Arizona? (Preferably in 7-15gal sizes) (also not moon valley because they are overly expensive)

Featured Replies

Looking to get some mule palms in the valley hopefully sometime before march. I have seen these palms and they are absolutely beautiful and they are drought tolerant. Im hoping to get some planted by at least April. Looking for a seller (NOT MOON VALLEY) that sells these palms (preferably in 7-15gal sizes).

Take a road trip to northern San Diego county.  There you will find more than one vendor.  (PM me for details)

San Francisco, California

Local big boxes carry these on a regular basis now. Standard size is 15 gallon pot and standard price is $300 everywhere. Most nurseries outside of big box stores price is $399 for a 15 gallon. Smaller sizes are no longer available locally, although larger sizes up to 72" box are.👍

Cheaper in Florida than in California, to be sure

Because of a bigger market and less water needed?

I should have done a road-trip to the US for some palms. According to the rules it should be fine to bring in if they are in peat.

It's supply/demand like everything else.  Lots of palm growers in Southern California and Florida so supply is high in those areas.  Not as many growers in Texas so nurseries ship in most of their palms from Florida/California and inflate prices because of their shipping costs.  And availability is much less here as well.

SoFL is big for growers. Homestead, South of Miami where the growing season is 12 months and a normal year has sufficient rainfall. Lower taxes overall than CA.
