Price of Planters

I have a bit of a pet peeve regarding plastic planting pots. Here at a local BB store are thick plastic buckets, about 20 or 30 gallons, for US$10.

These things are injection molted, thousands per hour. No reason for the prices that industry charges for pots normally.

I couldn’t agree more the cost of containers and soil and I buy in bulk lots combined with the cost of importing seeds and everything else that goes with growing palms when you try and sell a palm people look at you like you’re crazy for selling them at that price but they don’t hesitate to pay hundreds of dollars in the chain stores for plants.

If only the world knew how many.............  perfectly re-usable pots, ..of all sizes / quality,  some nurseries i've worked at  tossed out regularly...  🙃  lol..

At the last place, we had a 10 x 10 x 20ft high " pile "  of pots sitting in the sun in one area of the property just awaiting being tossed into the trash bin at any given time..

..Or someone like me coming along to rifle through and rescue /  allow other people inquiring while roaming the nursery to take home a few..

Better to be recycled than leaching chemicals into the soil after being buried in a landfill  :greenthumb:

The prices of some things are pretty ridiculous these days. Whatever the market will bear I guess…

That is often more of a hollow excuse some companies and individuals use to fleece people,  than a legit reason for many price increases, esp. on fairly cheap to produce things..

It is up to the individual to say " Sorry buddy,  Ain't paying X for Y.. "  Paying  extra $$ for something isn't some set in stone life's requirement to live or enjoy living.

Shop around and support what businesses  offer desired products / services at a fair price..

Self absorbed / greedy company or individual looses their income / business cuz no one will buy into their easily refutable excuse ( es ) for any over the top price increases on plastic planters,  ..or the plants themselves?     Good,  let them go broke.  Maybe they'll learn something much more valuable than $$ along the way.

A good business isn't greedy, or self absorbed / centered..  Look no further than the founder of AZ Beverages /  Iced Tea products for a pretty good example.  32 years later and his products are still  ...99 cents where sold.

Good, related article: https://www.businessinsider.in/retail/news/arizona-iced-tea-founder-explains-why-hes-bucked-the-inflation-trend-and-never-raised-its-iconic-99-cent-price-in-32-years/articleshow/111301622.cms

A can or two are always in my pack or cooler when headed out for a hike / to do some plant / critter- related research, ..or just a stroll in a favorite local park / garden. :greenthumb:

I say it with a little sarcasm but it is true to some extent. If they raised the price of 1 gal liners to $15 each I don’t think they would sell very many.  It’s not noble or a law in the paradigm or anything but it describes something that happens. Of course there are “good” companies out there that provide a valuable product or service and treat their employees well and that’s awesome. I’ll bet they are considerably less common than the standard approach companies are though. The corporate world is a magnet for narcissists. The only goal seems to be more. Wealth is certainly our societies current religion but we’re not the only ones. I wish that the culture was good for you, good for me and for the greater good but looking back through history I’m not too hopeful there will be any major shifts in my life time.

This is 100% inflation.  "Price gouging" is the hollow excuse used by those who are fleecing the population with fiat currency.

This is what happens when trillions are printed in a few years, not "corporate greed" although that is a problem in other sectors

The currency continues to be debased and until people figure that out, prices of everything will continue to rise at the pace of printing. We cannot print ourselves into prosperity, only poverty.
