Dave -- thanks; that's just a little corner. I've been up to Christian's nursery three times and have been expanding my palm empire.

gsn -- By pure dumb luck, the royal and triangle seem to get just the right amount from the sprinkler system, which was put in before I planted most of my palms. The royal is within reach of 3 heads close to the trunk, plus there's a swale between it and the nighbor's yard that collects water. The triangle, on the other hand, doesn't get that much water because the two nearest heads are completely blocked by the zamias.

When palms get to this size, though, you can forget about fine tuning your sprinkler system. I had my concrete driveway and sidewalk torn out for pavers this spring, and the royal roots extended all the way to the garage some 50 feet away.

As an interesting aside, I have a big bizzie right next to the sidewalk; not a single root showed after the concrete was removed.
