Another New Caledonia palm that can be grown in warm Mediterranean climates and many places throughout the world. Even in Florida, it keeps its beautiful trunk. This is a tall palm that I had to take in segments:20B7631D-B20A-40CB-9EF5-069ECC33A030.thumb.jpeg.dc978b687aa0e5cc9a57ce01d23a4b82.jpeg

The ones in my garden here in Northern California have grown steadily over the 5-6 years they’ve been in the ground out of 2 gallon containers.

This one I planted about a month ago.  I bought it from Floribunda in June 2023.  This is the smaller of the two, on the lower left in mostly full sun.

And this one I planted last fall in a shadier area, with the Nucele on the lower left and a couple of Gaussia Princeps on the right center.

I’m surprised it ever got that low.

To add to the topic, here’s my C nucele in Melbourne, Aus. Been in the ground 4.5 years now, North-East facing with some filtered light and canopy from Chambeyronia macrocarpa and Chrysalidocarpus arenarum. It’s seen a minimum of -1.4C / 29F and a maximum well over 40C / 104F. Slow, but robust and each new frond is healthy and getting larger.

It is amazing how far these tropical specimens and so many others can grow successfully from their native origins!

@tt68camaro that looks great!  Did you have any problems with them in full sun?  I have Elegans in full Orlando sun and it seems pretty happy.  I am going to try Alba too.

I bought it as a 15 gallon so it was already fairly acclimated to sun. Seems like all of the new caledonia palms prefer some shade when young to me. Lifou island is a limestone island though so quite a different habitat than all of the others in N.C.

Ya a mystery one. Still unsure of what it is. Possibly a hybrid.

Yeah it’s very surprising the lows on those coastal islands. I kinda don’t get it. Must be air from NZ?

Here is mine growing in Leucadia, CA.  It is in filtered light most of the day during summer and the shoulder seasons and shade in winter, during the sun's low arc.

Yes indeed!  Initially I ignored this palm because of the "11A" rating, but it's been surprisingly hardy in kinzyjr's compilation.  Eric @ Leu Gardens had Elegans during the 2009 extended 29F freeze with no damage.  Several others in CA and FL reported no damage or minimal damage around 30F.  I'm hoping Nucele will end up being my "Bottle Palm replacement," something a few degrees hardier but smallish and with that cool frond shape.

You were kind enough to ID that large leafed non-palm in the other thread that was driving me nuts ( Coccoloba pubescens)! I only wish good things for your cutting edge palms in Orlando and hope that you plant a Cp for good measure!
