Hello,

I am new to the site and not heavily versed in all things palm tree. I live in South Florida and drive by these large what I would presume are date palms out in front of a gated waterfront community. These palms are a little different from other similar looking ones in that the color of the leaves are more of a grey or silvery green color than your typical green fronds. Does anyone know what kind of palm this is specifically with this coloration? I tried to look for seeds on the ground but just found tiny round green seeds and I don’t know if they are viable or if they fell off before becoming larger “dates”. My guess is the latter. I didn’t see any older larger seeds from previous blooms around and my guess is they cut them off the tree before they get large and ripe and cause a mess?

Thank you,

Jason

Looks like a Phoenix dactylifera.  The fruit would be a lot larger if it were viable.  The date palms here are usually either a Medjool or Deglet Noor that has been retired from a grove in AZ or inland CA.
