Enjoyed my day off from work, wife put me off the leash so I drove to some locations here in San Antonio including a park called Ladybird on the Westside.  Sad to see gangs and homeless people have no respect for mother nature.  I took a few shots and got out of dodge quickly.  Some other pictures were taking at the zoo and tea garden , some others in and around SA. Some pictures were put up recently from other PT members

 

@MarcusH  so many nice Brahea.  I don't ever see them around here, we just have lots of date palms instead.

Nice to see that Phoenix reclinata is still hanging in there!  It's recovered quite a bit since I saw it last.

There are quite a few in the downtown area. I only know of one outside of downtown on the Southside ( Flores) but since SA is so big I'm sure there are more out there.

Most Brahea don’t do well in Houston

there used to be a massive queen 2021 survivor in the center but it appears beryl removed her haha so now just the once small seedling remains. @Xenon rip random queen I stumbled upon next to the seawall .

Hard to tell from the pic but to me it looks like Cordia boissieri (Texas olive).  If so these are excellent trees - very drought tolerant and bloom almost constantly (fruits can get messy though).  Mine in San Antonio survived Palmageddon and even being cut down by the buyer of my house a year later!  Very tough!

Not the one I was thinking of but saw this example on the way back to the house in San Benito.  You can see how one palm on the right still has the old leaf boots but the one on the left is getting a shave.

Mexican olive tree native to the RGV  (south Texas ) 

Cordia boissieri. Some people also call them the Texas Olive Tree. They are hardy into the teens, below that they take stem damage but will come back from the base.

I believe that one was located in the parking lot of the World Birding Center/ Bentsen- Rio Grande Valley State Park.  
  
If you head West on 83 in RGV, right around Rio Grande City the terrain becomes more arid , the thick mesquite scrub brush that was cleared 100 years ago in the RGV returns, and you will sporadically see Mexican Olive trees mixed in. Along  Falcon Lake they are numerous . They are easy to spot when in flower.

I can but I've never had success trying to germinate them.  It can be done but I think it must be tricky (at least for me!). I recommend this tree highly throughout central and south Texas.

Turners gardenland in Corpus had lots of nice olive trees for sale as well. Lots of fruit on them.
