Does anyone know of or have a list of palm trees by mature height? Either/or the reproductive height, or final height at old age in cultivation?  Im daydreaming a sunken conservatory and those numbers all put in a list would be helpful. I'll make one if not, palmpedia has the numbers mostly just in each category.  Then people can plan around their dreams with reality; so many people try seedlings inside only to have it die when it's too large and freezes to death outside. Knowing what to expect in advance may help people make good choices too, or decide it's worth the effort.

I'm not aware of a list like that, but there might be one.  I found that canopy diameter and growth rate was the most useful when planning out an area.

@flplantguy There isn't a complete list that I know about currently, but the list I posted on the Understory garden in 9b Florida thread is a decent starting point for smaller stuff in a conservatory.  Good attribute additions to the Palms list in the Cold Hardiness Master Data could include:

  • The overall mature height/trunk diameter
  • Is the palm monoecious/dioecious
  • Is palm monocarpic
  • Does palm contain oxylates (stinging crystals)

It would be a lot to add, but would make it more complete as a resource.

I can try a similar layout like for the shade tree list I created for my area at work. It has them by name and then each attribute in an Excel style format.  I would likely need help with some parts of it and it will take a while, but i think it would be useful so maybe I will give it a shot.
